Semissourian.com: Article It provides support for families affected by vater syndrome, a seriesof birth defects. How do I know this? I have vater syndrome. http://semissourian.com/story.html$rec=134812
Extractions: I love the Internet. Technology and I sometimes don't get along, but the Internet, in my opinion, is one of the absolute best inventions ever. The best thing about the Internet is that it connects you to people. In one night, I can talk to my father who lives in Jackson, my best friend who lives across town and my cousin who lives in New York. I love that. Then of course, I spend about an hour on something called the VATER board. This message forum is run by an organization called the VATER Connection. It provides support for families affected by VATER Syndrome, a series of birth defects. Each letter stands for something: V vertebrae defects, A anal defects, T/E tracheal and esophagus problems, and R stands for both Renal and Radial (kidney and thumb abnormalities). How do I know this? I have VATER Syndrome. Through this board, I have met people like myself, and I think I've learned to deal with my condition a lot better. When I log onto the board, I get excited. Sometimes I have messages waiting for me in my inbox, which I always go to first. After that's taken care of, I read the most recent messages on the board. Sometimes I reply, sometimes I don't it all depends on what the post is about. In one session, I read about everything, from dealing with swallowing issues to hearing about some VATER children's most recent doctor appointments, from heart specialists to bone specialists. The entire reason the board exists is for VATER children and their families to have a place to both give and get support and advice. Every time people ask me questions about the condition, I refer them to the board.

Extractions: Related Subjects: Family movie reviews for "VATER Syndrome" sorted by average review score: The China Syndrome Released in DVD by Columbia/Tristar Studios (28 August, 2001) MPAA Rating: PG (Parental Guidance Suggested) Director: James Bridges Starring: Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon, and Michael Douglas James Bridges ( Urban Cowboy Bright Lights, Big City ) directed this 1979 film that became a worldwide sensation when, just weeks after its release, the Three Mile Island nuclear accident occurred. Jane Fonda ( Klute Julia ) plays a television news reporter who is not taken very seriously until a routine story at the local nuclear power plant leads her to what may be a cover-up of epic proportions. She and her cameraman, played by Michael Douglas ( Wall Street American President ), hook up with a whistleblower at the plant, played by Jack Lemmon ( Save the Tiger Missing ). Together they try to uncover the dangers lurking beneath the nuclear reactor and avoid being silenced by the business interests behind the plant. Though topical, the film (produced by Douglas) works on its own as a socially conscious thriller that entertains even as it spurs its audience to think. Robert Lane Average review score: Takes itself more seriously than it can I don't think time has been kind to this flick. Even though recession, Enron and the rise-and-fall of another era of cheap gas make it nuclear power look attractive as it did in the late 1970's, this movie just doesn't radiate.
Re: Imperferate Anus Related To Other Syndromes??? posted by Amy on May 20, 2003 at 135229 Hi Amy, vater syndrome is oftencalled VACTERLS syndrome. The C was added for cardio problems. http://www.uoa.org/discussion/pocboard2/messages/586.html
Extractions: VATER syndrome is often called VACTERLS syndrome. The C was added for cardio problems. Cameron also had a VSD that closed on its own (finally a break!). He also has the Renal, Anus, and Vertebral issues. I've heard that a child is often classified with VATER Syndrome if they have 2 or more anomalies, but I've also heard 3 or more. I assume they've done kidney testing on your daugther(?) VATER actually isn't a chromosomal defect, so it's not genetic, to me VATER is just a label and it keeps me aware of other VATER issues that may arise and we keep an eye on those things. I do know of a mom who considers her child to have VATER and he has just 2 anomalies, I guess there are varying degrees. I've also heard of kids who have almost all of the anomalies. You may find the vaterconnection.org site helpful in your search for answers! I'm going to write another note to you re: the anoplasty under the topic, Cameron had that done too.

ThinkQuest : Library : Living With Prader-Willi Syndrome My cousin has a rare disease called vater syndrome, and I wish people would treathim normally or find out about vater syndrome so they understand him better. http://library.thinkquest.org/5696/gather/cgi-bin/gbook.html
Extractions: Index Diseases In a brainstorming session, the students came up with the idea of doing a site on Prader-Willi Syndrome. Their fellow classmate and friend, Kelsey, has the disease, and little was known about it. The students thought this was a good way to learn and to teach others about this disease. The students would like to incorporate this project into Prader-Willi awareness week which is April 24 through May 2, 1999. Visit Site 1999 ThinkQuest USA Want to build a ThinkQuest site? Additional abnormalities later observed in VATER patients include vertebral anomalies, and spondylocostal dysplasia, and intestinal, cardiac, renal, and respiratory malformations, leading to expansion of the acronym to VACERL association. Central nervous system malformations and mental retardation were noted in a small number of cases. The acronyms emphasize only the most frequently malformations and a wide variety of other defects affecting most parts of the body may be associated. More Information VACTERL or VATER association is an acronym used to describe a series of characteristics which have been found to occur together. V stands for vertebrae, which are the bones of the spinal column. A stands for imperforate anus or anal atresia, or an anus that does not open to the outside of the body. C is added to the acronym to denote cardiac anomalies. TE stands for tracheoesophageal fistula, which is a persistent connection between the trachea (the windpipe) and the esophagus (the feeding tube). R stands for renal or kidney anomalies and radial or arm anomalies. L is often added to stand for limb anomalies. Babies who have been diagnosed as having VACTERL association usually have at least three or more of these individual anomalies. There is a wide range of manifestation of VACTERL association so that the exact incidence within the population is not exactly known.
