Extractions: and P-L Westesson MD, PhD, DDS Clinical Presentation An 11-month-old male presented with perinatal stroke and right-sided weakness. Radiological Findings: Axial T1-weighted MR image showed a cleft at the posterior aspect of right frontal lobe connecting the extra-axial fluid space with the right lateral ventricle ( Fig. 1A ). The cleft was lined by gray matter, which had a small gap in between opposing surfaces indicating an open lip schizencephaly ( Fig. 1B ). Right cerebral hemisphere was smaller than left hemisphere. Septum pellucidum was absent giving a boxlike configuration of ventricles. The right lateral ventricle was mildly dilated ( Fig. 2A

Extractions: When my daughter was a 8 months old we noticed that she was having some delays in her motor skills. We took her to the neurologist and her diagnosis was 1. cortical dysplasia involving the right per-sylvian region with broad gyri which are diminished in number associated with thickened cortex. There is deep enfolding of the cortex with a deep sulcus which nearly reaches the lateral ventricle. While this is reminiscent of closed lip schizencephaly, a thin band of white matter separates the enfolded gray matter from the ventricular body. 2. Absence of the septum pellucidum. 3. The optic chiasm and nerves appear to be within normal limits for size.

In animals with brains, the nervous system also generates and conducts thoughts and emotions. Thus it is the system that animates "animals" (sponges are an exception). Chemicals that target the activity of nerves generally are the most rapidly acting toxins, typically causing paralysis and/or death. Click the link for more information. . Cephalic is a term that means " head The head of an animal is the anterior part that bears the mouth, the brain and various sensory organs (e.g. organs of sight, hearing, smell and taste). The very simplest animals do not have a head, but most bilaterally symmetric forms do. In vertebrates the contents of the head are protected by an enclosure of bone called the skull, which is attached to the spine. Head is often a part of a title of office, meaning "the highest". A "head of department" is thus the person with the highest standing in said department. This use might stem from the fact that the head is the highest placed part of the human body, or from the fact that the brain and therefore cognitive functions and decision making is located in the head.

Schizencephaly is a rare congenital anomaly of the brain, characterized by formation of abnormal unilateral or bilateral clefts in the cerebral hemispheres. It often manifests with partial seizures, mental retardation and hemiparesis. Only two cases of schizencephaly associated with psychosis have been reported in the literature. A patient of schizencephaly, who had bipolar affective disorder is described. It has been compared with the earlier two reported cases of schizencephaly associated with pyschosis.
