Extractions: Home Jane was 24, and had always been in good overall health. She was lactose intolerant, or at least sensitive enough to dairy products that she didn't eat them. She had a two year old running around and had just had her second baby. And she was terrified. "I was told I have MS.," she said. Imagine hearing that, at her age, with two babies no less. "I've been having numbness in some of my fingers. My muscles will twitch and I get these weird feelings in my face. My GP told me that it might just be calcium deficiency, since I don't eat dairy products and have formed and nursed two children. So he gave me a calcium supplement to take." "And?" I asked. "It didn't seem to help, so he sent me to a neurologist. The neurologist heard the symptoms and then and there said that I have multiple sclerosis." I could see her eyes reddening and some tears forming. "What am I going to do? What will happen to my kids? Can you do anything for me?" she said. Now there's three good questions. I wasn't sure about any of them, but like a good one-trick pony, I began with what I always say.
Job Accommodation Network JAN Logo. ACCOMMODATING PEOPLE WITH multiple sclerosis By Linda Carter Batiste, JDand Beth Loy, Ph.D. EXAMPLE ACCOMMODATIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH multiple sclerosis. http://www.jan.wvu.edu/media/MS.html
Extractions: Preface There are an estimated 250,000 to 350,000 people with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the United States. Because most people develop MS between the ages of 20 and 40, many are likely to be employed when first diagnosed. This statistic, coupled with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), show why knowing about workplace accommodations for people with MS is important. When considering accommodations for people with MS, remember that the accommodation process must be conducted on a case-by-case basis. Symptoms caused by MS vary from person to person, ranging from slight motor problems to a combination of motor, vision, and cognitive limitations. When determining effective accommodations, the person's individual abilities and limitations should be considered and problematic job tasks must be identified. Therefore, the person with MS should be involved in the accommodation process.
Extractions: Multiple Sclerosis What is Multiple Sclerosis? Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a life-long chronic disease diagnosed primarily in young adults. During an MS attack, inflammation occurs in areas of the white matter of the central nervous system (nerve fibers that are the site of MS lesions) in random patches called plaques. This process is followed by destruction of myelin, which insulates nerve cell fibers in the brain and spinal cord. Myelin facilitates the smooth, high-speed transmission of electrochemical messages between the brain, the spinal cord, and the rest of the body; when it is damaged, neurological transmission of messages may be slowed or blocked completely, leading to diminished or lost function. Symptoms of MS may be mild or severe and of long duration or short and appear in various combinations. The initial symptom of MS is often blurred or double vision, red-green color distortion, or even blindness in one eye. Most MS patients experience muscle weakness in their extremities and difficulty with coordination and balance. Most people with MS also exhibit paresthesias, transitory abnormal sensory feeling such as numbness or "pins and needles." Some may experience pain or loss of feeling. About half of people with MS experience cognitive impairments such as difficulties with concentration, attention, memory, and judgment. Such impairments are usually mild, rarely disabling, and intellectual and language abilities are generally spared. Heat may cause temporary worsening of many MS symptoms.

Well, over a few drinks at the pub, I was approached by two chaps who had made a bet. One had bet the other £10 that I would flash my boobs. I queried the bet, saying that if I did.. the 'loser' of the bet got to see my boobs, but the winner got £10 AND got to see them. They decided that if I did it, they would give me the tenner to give to a charity of my choice. Deal done! I lift my tee shirt. I pocket the tenner and promise that I'll give it to a Multiple Sclerosis charity. When I am next in my local pub, the landlord watches me deposit the £10 note into the collection box on the bar. My partner has a thoughtful look and when I ask why, he tells me that "We could be on to something with this". So we decide to raise awareness of this illness (maybe even some people may donate cash ?) and have a little fun in doing so. Please help Vix support the MSRC by making a donation
All Harley Memorial Day Blowout - Weekend Event In Gulfport, Mississippi Held by ASGARD motorcycle club and Gulfport Dragway in Gulfport, Mississippi over the Memorial holiday weekend every year for the purpose of allowing bikers to engage in a weekend of racing and other activities to raise money for different charities, like multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy. http://www.harleyblowout.com/home_page.htm
Extractions: To bring together people with a common cause, that have common ideals and, perhaps, even learn from one another. A deeper and richer meaning of the phenomenon of the biker brotherhood. The Harley Motorcycle Club is simply an extension and amplification of what all bikers feel. The Blowout was conceived in 1983 by the ASGARD Motorcycle Club . The first one was the Independence day Blowout (4th of July, 1983) at a motorcycle shop within the area of approximately 4 acres. (Harley-Davidson, Ocean Springs, MS. The shop is no longer there). We found that July is too hot and wet for outdoor events such as ours and we needed more room and control. An ideal friendship was formed between the ASGARD MC and Charles D. Reese (owner of Gulfport Dragway ), Oluf Zierl (former editor of the local biker bulletin (SSB), Gene Stewart of Rex Distributors (Budweiser Brewing Co.) and Vincent Creel (editor of the Marquee of the Sun Herald). The details worked out and by the third Blowout we switched to the Gulfport Dragway and the date was changed to the end of May (Memorial Day), which also symbolized the beginning of summer activities.

A 29-year-old woman sought a second opinion from a neurologist regarding treatment of her multiple sclerosis. Dizziness and slurred speech had occurred four years earlier, three months after the delivery of her first child. She was treated for labyrinthitis, and the symptoms resolved within two weeks. Five months ago, she had noted some weakness in her right leg while exercising. She saw a neurologist, who ordered magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain; it showed three lesions in the periventricular white matter and one in the cerebellum. Following lumbar puncture, oligoclonal bands were detected in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The first neurologist diagnosed multiple sclerosis and treated the patient with intravenous methylprednisolone, 1 g/day for three days. Her leg weakness resolved and she had no further symptoms.

The purpose of this research is to eventually explain the relationship of heme synthesis to Central Nervous System (CNS) damage and also to explain its control Several of the hypotheses formulated for the etiology of `MS are linked together by the proposed disturbance in porphyrin metabolism implicated in a subgroup of `MS patients: environmental inducers including viral infections, autoimmunity, and genetic susceptibility (Kotze and Rooney 1997; Rooney et al., 1999). The possible connection between these hypotheses and the heme biosynthesis pathway will be further investigated. Hereditary Biochemical
