I've changed things around alot since I first started it. The purpose of the site is to help others who have found themselves with Crohn's, Colitis, IBD, and/or IBS. This website is NOT meant for medical purposes. It's meant only for information to help you become a more informed patient. The more information you have, the better off you will be in the long run. We also have a support group. I believe it's one of the best on the net. The support forum was originally founded in 1998. We originated on Yahoo Clubs, then moved to Delphi and now to MSN. Since getting my own domain, the support forum has now taken up residence here on my domain and I hope to see it grow as big as the one we had on yahoo. You will probably notice I have said this is a HUMOR and SUPPORT site. You have to have humor mixed in to get thru a day with Crohn's. It's a very important part of life, or I believe so anyway. You'll find throughout the pages and especially in the forum bits of humor here and there. Please don't be put off by it. When you've had a disease like this for awhile, you have to learn to look at the humorous side of life with Crohns.

Ulcerative colitis causes inflammation and ulcerations in the lining of the large intestine. Abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea are common symptoms and other symptoms may include fatigue, decreased appetite and weight loss, loss of body fluids, rectal bleeding. Ulcerative colitis may also cause problems such as arthritis, inflammation of the eye, liver disease (fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis), osteoporosis, skin rashes, anemia, and kidney stones. The exact cause is unknown but most people with this condition have an abnormal immune system which may be either a cause or effect of the disease. Treatment may involve dietary changes, medications and/or surgery.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a group of chronic disorders that cause inflammation or
ulceration in the small and large intestines. Most often IBD is classified as ulcerative colitis or
Crohn's disease but may be referred to as colitis, enteritis, ileitis, and proctitis.
Ulcerative colitis causes ulceration and inflammation of the inner lining of the colon and rectum,
while Crohn's disease is an inflammation that extends into the deeper layers of the intestinal
wall.
Crohn's disease also may affect other parts of the digestive tract, including the mouth,
esophagus, stomach, and small intestine.
Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease cause similar symptoms that often resemble other conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome (spastic colitis). The correct diagnosis may take

Inflammatory Bowel Disease - Ulcerative Colitis / Proctitis
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an inflammatory bowel disease that affects only the colon and rectum, causing ulcerations or sores to form in the intestinal inner lining. Ulcerative proctitis is a milder form of the disease that is confined to the rectum.
While there is no known cause or cure, UC is not considered a fatal disease. In most cases, it is possible to lead a full, productive life, feeling quite well between flare-ups and responding very well to the variety of treatments available.
Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis is characterized by intestinal inflammation, damage, and scarring. Symptoms are quite variable. Once the inflammatory process begins, it tends to persist for years if not life. The disease may also recur after surgical intervention. Spontaneous remissions (symptom-free intervals) and exacerbations (relapses or flare-ups) are usual and to be expected.
Symptoms may include pain, bleeding, and altered bowel function (cramps, diarrhea, constipation), as well as fever, decreased appetite, weight loss, joint pain, and skin lesions (erythema nodosum).

Ulcerative colitis
Definition
Ulcerative colitis is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It causes swelling, ulcerations, and loss of function of the large intestine. Description
The primary problem in IBD is inflammation, as the name suggests. Inflammation is a process that often occurs in order to fight off foreign invaders in the body, including viruses, bacteria, and fungi. In response to such organisms, the body's immune system begins to produce a variety of cells and chemicals intended to stop the invasion. These immune cells and chemicals, however, also have direct effects on the body's tissues, resulting in heat, redness, swelling, and loss of function. No one knows what starts the cycle of inflammation in IBD, but the result is a swollen, boggy intestine. In ulcerative colitis, the inflammation affects the lining of the rectum and large intestine. It is thought that the inflammation begins in the last segment of large intestine, which empties into the rectum (sigmoid colon). This inflammation may spread through the entire large intestine, but only rarely affects the very last section of the small intestine (ileum). The rest of the small intestine remains normal. Ulcerative colitis differs from Crohn's disease , which is a form of IBD that affects both the small and large intestines. The inflammation of ulcerative colitis occurs only in the lining of the intestine (unlike Crohn's disease which affects all of the layers of the intestinal wall). As the inflammation continues, the tissue of the intestine begins to slough off, leaving pits (ulcerations) which often become infected.

    http://www.bdf.org.uk/leaflets/colitis.html
Inflammatory Bowel Disease What are inflammatory Bowel Diseases? These are disorders where the bowel becomes red and inflamed. In ulcerative colitis the lining of the large bowel is involved. In Crohn's disease (named after an American physician) any part of the digestive tract can be affected and the full thickness of the bowel wall can become inflamed. Crohn's disease, when it affects the colon, and ulcerative colitis are similar so it is sometimes hard to tell which one a patient has. What is the cause of Ulcerative Colitis of Crohn's Disease? The cause or causes are not known. It is possible that affected people have an abnormal defence mechanism against the bacteria which are normally present in the gut. A long-term reaction to a particular bacterium or virus may be important. People in some families are more susceptible than in others, but the chance of passing this tendency on to children is small. What are the symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis? The disease can give trouble on and off throughout life. Most of the time, most sufferers feel well with no symptoms this means the disease is inactive (in remission). The disease flares up from time to time and becomes active (relapse). At each flare-up the symptoms can be better, worse or the same as the time before. The main symptoms are:
