It is currently co-directed by Nancy Keuthen, Ph.D., and Michael Bromley, M.D. The clinic has a dual mission of 1) providing comprehensive clinical evaluation and treatment for chronic hairpullers and 2) conducting innovative research in this disorder. The clinic offers both behavioral treatment and medications for treatment of TTM and related body-focused disorders, including chronic skin picking. The MGH Trichotillomania clinic is one of the leading treatment centers in the world for the treatment of TTM and related disorders. The clinic has sponsored numerous workshops and conferences for the public on TTM and other repetitive, body-focused disorders. The staff maintain an active presence on the scientific board of the Trichotillomania Learning Center (TLC), a national consumer organization for chronic hairpullers. The clinic has conducted numerous research studies in the past including neuroimaging and neuropsychological studies of the disorder, development of the only validated self-rating scale for TTM, treatment outcome studies, investigation of the relationship between the menstrual cycle and hairpulling symptoms, and a longitudinal naturalistic follow-up of treatment outcome. Welcome To Brenda C's Trichotillomania Pages and Message Board!
"I love it and I hate it. I am drawn to it and can't stop. All that exists in the world at that moment is that hair. How could anybody understand such a thing? My compulsion to pull out my own hair?" "But I'm not crazy. Surely someone somewhere out there must do this too. But why isn't it known? If others do it, where are they?" They are here. Welcome! You are not alone! Trichotillomania is described as "an impulse control disorder marked by the pulling out of one's own hair. This can be from your scalp, your eyelashes or eyebrows, or any where else on your body". Those of us who do it hate that we do it, but find it very hard to stop. We like the sensation of pulling, but we hate the end result. We want to stop, but can't seem to do it. It is estimated that at least 10 million Americans alone are affected, and it could easily be higher, as most of us live with this disorder silently. My purpose for creating this web site is to help you, as a hair puller, to feel connected to others. To have someone to talk to who "does it, too." To offer you resources to other trich sites, and to pass on whatever knowledge I might gather over the years.

Self-Help Network
About the TTM Self-Help Network
We are a grassroots self-help network whose purpose is to provide peer support for adults in the Greater Vancouver area suffering from trichotillomania (TTM), also known as compulsive hair-pulling. Our members include people with diverse backgrounds, ages, education, and interests. Monthly meetings in Vancouver, BC give members an opportunity to come together in a safe and relaxed environment on an equal and voluntary basis. We explore common issues, share experiences, understand past failures, encourage future success, and most of all, accept and support one another. If you have ever felt alone in your struggle with trichotillomania, please consider joining us.
What is Trichotillomania? Trichotillomania is the compulsion to pull out one's hair resulting in noticeable hair loss. Those with TTM may pull from the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows, beard, pubic area, or other areas of the body. Tension is often experienced just before pulling or when attempts are made to resist pulling. A sense of pleasure, gratification, or relief occurs when pulling out the hair.
