Most pianists' injuries are injuries to the tendons of the arm and handthat is, some form of tendonitis. Names and spellings vary. "Tendonitis" and "tendinitis" are equivalent; "tenosynovitis" refers to injuries involving the synovial sheath that surrounds the tendon. "De Quervain's disease" affects tendons of the thumb. "Lateral epicondylitis" or "tennis elbow" affects tendons on the outside of the elbow, "medial epicondylitis" or "golfer's elbow" affects tendons on the inside of the elbow. "Ganglion cysts" are disorders of the tendon sheaths. There are also injuries to the tendons in the shoulder. Shoulder injuries may affect the tendons in the rotator cuff or the bursa which is the cushion underlying the tendon and protecting it. Injuries to the bursa are called "bursitis," injuries to the tendons receive different names depending on the specific structure that is affected. All these problems can occur in pianists, though few pianists suffer from all at once. All of them are use-relatedthey result from the pianist's way of using the arm and hand. In almost all cases they can be cured if the pianist adopts a better use. Why should pianists (and other people who use their hands in repetitive tasks) be subject to tendon injuries? The answer is obvious the moment we look at the array of muscles that move the hand and fingers.

Common leg injuries in the horse including tendonitis, bucked shins and carpal tunnel syndrome, plus treatment options.
http://www.leg-injuries-in-horses.com
About this site
A
horse's legs, particularly the forelegs, are by far the most common sites for injuries. With each stride, the horse's front legs take the brunt of the concussive forces of his hooves hitting the ground. This can result in both soft tissue injury and fractures.
Many leg injuries occur when horses are trained too hard, too fast or on a hard surface. Rapid, hard training doesn't allow time for the bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons to adjust to additional stress Injury can also occur when the horse has poor conformation, is worked on an uneven surface, is bandaged too tightly, or lacks balanced trimming and proper shoeing.
Common symptoms include
• lameness
• pain
• swelling and inflammation
• reluctance to complete a training session.

Injuries section Injuries home Injury guide The BIG 5 Achilles tendonitis ... Injuries links Achilles tendonitis - the BIG Five - the 5 most common running injuries Definition : Inflammation of the Achilles tendon. The Achilles is the large tendon connecting the two major calf muscles, gastrocnemius and soleus, to the back of the heel bone. Under too much stress, the tendon tightens and is forced to work too hard. This causes it to become inflamed (that is tendinitis), and, over time, can produce a covering of scar tissue, which is less flexible than the tendon. If the inflamed Achilles continues to be stressed, it can tear or rupture. Symptoms:
Dull or sharp pain anywhere along the back of the tendon, but usually close to the heel. limited ankle flexibility redness or heat over the painful area a nodule (a lumpy build-up of scar tissue) that can be felt on the tendon a cracking sound (scar tissue rubbing against tendon) with ankle movement. Causes:
Tight or fatigued calf muscles, which transfer the burden of running to the Achilles. This can be due to poor stretching, rapidly increasing distance, or over-training excessive hill running or speed work, both of which stress the Achilles more than other types of running.

Department of Family Practice, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada V6T 1Z3 Tendonitis such as that of the Achilles, lateral elbow, and rotator cuff tendons is a common presentation to family practitioners and various medical specialists. Most currently practicing general practitioners were taught, and many still believe, that patients who present with overuse tendonitis have a largely inflammatory condition and will benefit from anti-inflammatory medication. Unfortunately this dogma is deeply entrenched.
