We were invited to create a design and paint on many of their enamelware candle containers! We chose a 5 petal "filbert" flower border! A new painting technique, ONE Stroke, has been quietly growing in popularity among decorative painters. Easier than Tole Painting, ONE Stroke seems too good to be true. It*s fun! It*s easy! It*s quick and inexpensive! First-timers can achieve amazing results! The process, created by Donna Dewberry, is now being taught in San Antonio by Jan Taylor. You have seen Donna on TV - on PBS and on QVC, the home shopping channel. Now YOU can learn this exciting painting method !!! ONE Stroke is a multi-loading style of decorative painting (using Plaid FolkArt paint) that is very friendly to novice painters. It*s an attractive, less structured style that lends itself to freehand painting. Results are fast and you don*t need to trace a pattern. Paint on wood, metal, plaster, glass, fabric, plastic, and ceramic surfaces. Imagine blending, shading, and highlighting all in ONE Stroke! You will be excited too, to find out how EASY ONE Stroke is. In February, Jan Taylor will be attending a 3 day workshop with Donna Dewberry right here in San Antonio, Texas. Donna will be reviewing many of the techniques as well as helping each of those who are attending to master all the elements. The 3 day workshop will conclude with a "test" phase that upon completion and passing Donna's critique will give Jan the coveted title of "One Stroke Certified Instructor". This coveted title will also open up a whole new world to both Jan and her existing students and clients, offering them deals on paints and supplies at a less than retail cost as well as "first dib's" on new items before they hit the store shelves! Upon completion and of course a passing grade, Jan plans to seek the next level of "Elite OSCI", a much harder level to achieve!To achieve "Elite" level one must have completed several hours of classroom instruction (teaching the One stroke method) several hours of demo's and also be published in one of many paint or decorating magazines! We are excited at the chance to work directly with Donna in February! One of the secrets of successful One stroke decorative painting is fully loading your brush with 2 or more colors! To double load your brush: Dipping both sides of the brush in paint simply won't do! You need to "scoop" the paint (onto both corners) and then brush back and forth on the pallet. Don't brush back and forth too much though! I use the "Cha Cha Cha" method! Scoop paint and brush back then forth then back then pick up more paint and brush back then forth then back then pick up more paint and "Cha Cha Cha". Don't forget to push really hard during each brushstroke while loading (that is a well kept secret!). And also, when you think you have enough paint (3/4" up the bristles) then do it a couple of more times! Now that's fully loaded! A tip for loading a smaller brush (# 12 and smaller): Fully load your smaller brush with 1 color using my "Cha Cha Cha" method. Come back and "side load" that brush with your second color. Side loading is simply brushing back and forth on the edge of the second paint puddle. You will begin to see 2 colors emerge on your brush. If you need a 3rd color, just side load that same brush on the opposite side with that third color. Side loading is a handy technique for all sorts of effects!
