Un boss sotto stress
di Harold Ramis "Back in terapy", ovvero "di nuovo in terapia", così recita lo slogan ufficiale del film.
Ad ogni modo, non si può certo dire che questo film non valga i soldi spesi per acquistare il biglietto, perché in realtà ci sono alcune scene (una, quella del ristorante, a dir poco esilarante) per assistere alle quali vale la pena comprarlo, il biglietto. La sensazione generale però, è che lo sforzo creativo dei vari sceneggiatori e soggettisti (tra cui Kenneth Lonergan, co-sceneggiatore del recente " Gangs of New York ") non sia stato sufficiente a mettere insieme una sceneggiatura brillante ed originale al punto giusto, come una commedia di questo tipo avrebbe richiesto. L'impressione che si ha, è che gli autori si siano affidati molto alle capacità di improvvisazione di un Robert De Niro in buona forma, che "esagera" come solo lui sa fare e che trova una volta ancora in Billy Crystal la spalla ideale per animare uno show altrimenti abbastanza monotono. Attorno ai due protagonisti ruota un cast che funge solo ed esclusivamente da contorno. Vale però forse la pena citare fra tutti il nome di Cathy Moriarty, la splendida Vickie di "Toro Scatenato", che per quel film d'esordio si era guadagnata una nomination all'Oscar e che qui ritroviamo nuovamente al fianco di De Niro (anche nel sottovalutato "Cop Land"), un pò appesantita dagli anni, ma sempre affascinante, come nel capolavoro di Scorsese.

Nor is it inevitable! Believe it or not, you can learn how to largely eliminate stress. I don't mean eliminate the pressures in your life - those will probably persist. The way I think of it, pressure is what is happening to you, but stress is how you react to those pressures. So, you can keep the pressure and get rid of the stress. When you are in real, immediate physical danger, it is appropriate to feel afraid. Getting your body charged up with adrenaline may well help to keep you alive. However, most of the time when we feel stressed, there is no immediate danger, so it is a false alarm. The fire alarm is sounding, but there is no fire! So how do you learn how to manage stress? There are basically two main ways:

Effective time management is just one of many ways to keep from succumbing to stress overload. Here is a list of some other methods of stress management that you might want to experiment with to see what works best for your particular situation.
  • Associate with people whom you enjoy and who support you. Learn and practice relaxation or meditation skills. Engage in a vigorous physical exercise that is convenient and pleasurable. Sometimes it helps to get a friend to exercise with you. Don't let one thing dominate you, such as school work, relationships, jobs, sports, etc. View life as challenges to seek, not obstacles to avoid. Take responsibility for your life and your feelings, but never blame yourself. Maintain a reasonable diet and sane sleep habits. Avoid the use of sleeping pills, tranquilizers, and other drugs to control stress. Protect your personal freedoms and space. Do what you want and feel, but respect the rights of others. Don't tell others what to do, but if they intrude, let them know. Find a time and place each day where you can have complete privacy. Take time off from others and pressures. Short time-outs during the day can help improve efficient functioning the rest of the day.
