I was experiencing these symptons before having a
radical prosectomy. They were able to save one nerve bundle at the time of surgery. I still have the painful orgasams and ED is a problem. I just purchesed the Erecaid to combat the ED and am wondering if a back problem would cause problems in this area.

Herniated nucleus pulposus (slipped disk)
Definition: A condition in which part or all of the soft, gelatinous central portion of an intervertebral disk (the nucleus pulposus) is forced through a weakened part of the disk, resulting in back pain and leg pain caused by nerve root irritation.
Alternative Names: Lumbar radiculopathy; Cervical radiculopathy; Herniated intervertebral disk; Prolapsed intervertebral disk; Slipped disk; Ruptured disk
Causes, incidence, and risk factors: The bones of the spinal column, or vertebrae, run down the back connecting the skull to the pelvis. These bones protect nerves as they exit the brain and travel down the back and then to the entire body. The spinal column is divided into several segments the cervical spine (the neck), the thoracic spine (the part of the back behind the chest), the lumbar spine (lower back), and sacral spine (the part connected to the pelvis that does not move). The spinal vertebrae are separated by cartilage disks filled with a gelatinous substance, that provide cushioning to the spinal column. These disks may herniate (move out of place) or rupture from trauma or

The result of injury or age-associated degeneration, slipped disks can cause severe and even disabling pain. Most slipped disks occur in the lower back, but the bones of the upper back are also vulnerable. Depending on severity, doctors may prescribe painkillers, bed rest, or surgery to treat slipped disks. Sciatica and slipped disk
Question
Hi.
My doctor says that I have sciatica due to a slipped disk. I also have slight scoliosis and the beginnings of arthritis in my spine. The waiting list here in UK is 4.5 years to see a specialist. I am in a lot of pain with tingling, pins and needles and some numbness in my leg from bottom to foot. I am so worried about waiting for so long. Although I am taking Ibubrofen and now Tramadol as well, I would like to know what damage can happen to me if I have to stay like this for 4 .5 years. I am 48 and normally in excellent health. Thank you for any reply and for your time and trouble. Jo Answer Hi Jo

Slipped disk
A slipped disk in the lower back typically irritates a sciatic nerve, causing pain that extends down the leg, characteristic of sciatica . The pain is often sudden and severe. Muscle weakness tingling and numbness in parts of the leg or foot indicate that the nerve is pinched. Difficulty coordinating the leg muscles suggests a serious condition. The most serious symptoms are an inability to urinate or urinary incontinence . In some cases, a slipped disk can present very mild symptoms. Once a disk is injured, it is prone to reinjury unless special care is taken. Although a slipped disk is more common in the lower back, it can also occur in the neck, with marked pain on tilting the head. A disk is a cushion which lies between the bony vertebrae, it functions as a shock absorber. Normally, each disk is surrounded by a tough outer ring which holds it secure. If the disk is unable to bear the pressure, the outer ring can tear, allowing the disk to slip out of shape and press on nerves which lie dangerously near. The lower-back is most prone to a slipped disk because lifting awkwardly puts unbearable pressure on the lower vertebral column, especially if the supporting stomach and back muscles and ligaments are poorly developed. Although a slipped disk seems to appear from one awkward movement, chronic back misuse is usually a precipitating factor.

All's been swell until recently, when I realized a 100-megabyte Zip disk doesn't cut it anymore—you try cramming a bunch of MP3s and Adobe Illustrator sketches on there! Can I upgrade to a bigger Zip without spending a fortune? Sure can, but don't be too quick to assume Zip's necessarily the way to go. Those playing-card-sized disks were dandy in the mid to late '90s, especially compared to floppies and their pathetic 1.44 MB storage caps. But we're in the CD era nowadays, replete with cheap burners and sub-$1 media. Zip technology's keeping pace in terms of storage, but the disk prices are, and always will be, killers.

    Recover from a slipped disk
A grinding, whining, or other odd sound emanating from your hard drive is not to be ignored. Think of it as a plea for help from a disk on the way out. If you act quickly, you may be able to save your data before the hard drive calls it quits. Back up your data immediately, if your machine will allow it. If the backup works, you can replace your hard drive and restore the data. Even if you were unable to backup your entire hard drive (or any of it), all may not be lost. Data-recovery companies can often retrieve data when you cannot. Even hopeless-sounding cases can turn out rosy. One company boasts having recovered all the data from a computer that had been at the bottom of the Amazon River for two days. Data recovery can cost hundreds of dollars, so you just may want to get serious about regular backups. www.texasrealestate.com

Dear Sir, My Partner recently had surgery to remove two slipped disks. At first he seemed to recover quickly, whilst their was some bruising he was already walking and perching at the end of the bed. He was therefore discharged from the hospital after about 4 or 5 days. The day after he started to complain of pain on the right hand lower back and after 2 or 3 days was readmitted to the hospital. He is now suffering from chronic spasms in the lower back region and is almost bed ridden as the pain is so intense. He has had a weekening in his legs and occasionally his arms spasm as well, although this is not as severe. He is currentl on Pathedone (spelling?) and has had electopathy for the inflamation, but rather than his condition improving it has steadily deterioated. I was surfing the net and have come accross articles on Myelitis - could this have anything to do with his current condition? Can you please advise me. Next Article

Mac users: please note that our site is optimized for the Safari browser General Health Disk is slipped, bulging, and herniated... Help! Originally Published: March 29, 2002 Dear Alice, What is the difference between a slipped disk, a bulge in a lumbar disk, and a herniated disk? I am (for the past two months) experiencing severe back pain which radiated down my left leg. My MRI results came back and the nurse from the office said I had "disk disease" and "degeneration" as well as a "slipped disk." The doctor called me later and told me I have a "bulge" and an "arthritic" spine condition. I am trying to understand what the various terms mean (slipped vs. bulge vs. herniated). Could you tell me what the distinctions are? Dear Reader, Let's start at the top, or rather the back. Your spine is a column of thirty-three small bones called vertebrae. These bones create a protective tunnel for your spinal cord, a bundle of nerves that relay messages between the brain and the body. In between each vertebra is a small piece of disk-shaped cartilage. These "disks" act as a cushion and prevent the vertebrae from grinding against each other when you "do the Twist" or anything else that involves moving your back. Degenerative disk disease is a form of arthritis. This statement might be controversial, according to some. There's degenerative disk disease and degenerative osteoarthritis, but they're not necessarily considered the same. Other forms of arthritis also affect the spine, such as osteoarthritis of the spine, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
