No one knows cedar like WFP Cedar.
WFP Cedar is a manufacturer and distributor of cedar lumber products, recognized by major builders and architects throughout the United States as the cedar experts, with more knowledge about high quality Western Red Cedar products than any other suppliers.
We purchase Western Red Cedar direct from the mills in British Columbia for each of our three factory-finishing locations in Illinois, North Carolina and Florida. We stock more than a million board feet of product, which is more cedar board than many northwestern mills.
Why Buy Your pre-stained cedar siding from WFP Cedar?
We offer a better product, because of better quality control. All orders are hand selected for uniform size, and re-graded as either clear or select knotty cedar. We purchase our cedar green, and air dry it before staining. We never kiln dry our cedar just to speed up the process.
We'll match any color to your specifications, using only the highest quality coating to assure complete coverage and proper protection. WFP Cedar is one of only a few certified pre-stainers of both Olympic and Cabot, the industry leaders in factory-finish coatings.
We'll custom-package your order in climate controlled conditions and ship it directly to your job site, with all the boards, trim and accessories required to complete the entire project.

A patient information handout on shingles, written by the authors of this article, is provided on page 2447. H erpes zoster results from reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus. Unlike varicella (chickenpox), herpes zoster is a sporadic disease with an estimated lifetime incidence of 10 to 20 percent. The incidence of herpes zoster increases sharply with advancing age, roughly doubling in each decade past the age of 50 years. Herpes zoster is uncommon in persons less than 15 years old. In a recent study, patients more than 55 years of age accounted for more than 30 percent of herpes zoster cases despite representing only 8 percent of the study population. In this same study, children less than 14 years old represented only 5 percent of herpes zoster cases. The normal age-related decrease in cell-mediated immunity is thought to account for the increased incidence of varicella-zoster virus reactivation. Patients with disease states that affect cell-mediated immunity, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and certain malignancies, are also at increased risk. Chronic corticosteroid use, chemotherapy and radiation therapy may increase the risk of developing herpes zoster.

The Unmatched Quality of Copper. Historically, copper has served as the ultimate roofing material of choice. Unsurpassed in durability, beauty and value, copper is the only roofing material that actually improves with age. This "aging", or patina process, not only enhances its appearance, it also protects the metal from further oxidation. Copper's longevity is legendary. Almost all of the copper produced throughout time is still in use. And, in addition to being 100% recyclable, most architectural copper produced today has a recycled content of nearly 75%. Thus, not only is copper the best choice to protect a structure, it's also the best choice to protect the environment.

Overview Shingles (herpes zoster) is a common condition in which the virus that causes chickenpox (varicella-zoster virus) reactivates after years of lying dormant in your body. As the virus reactivates, it causes pain and tingling and eventually a rash of short-lived blisters. Shingles normally isn't a serious condition, but in some people the rash can cause an eye infection. Shingles can also lead to a complication called postherpetic neuralgia, which can cause the skin to remain painful and sensitive to touch for months or years. When identified early, shingles can be treated with prescription medications that help shorten the infection and reduce the risk of complications. Shingles is characterized by pain or a tingling sensation in a limited area on one side of the face or torso, followed by a red rash with small, fluid-filled blisters....

Shingles: Description and Treatment
Q:
I very much appreciate your column in the Health Section of the Journal Sentinel. Wish they came out more often. My wife has been going through a very frustrating and, at times, very painful problem for over a month since first being diagnosed with shingles. She had a doctor's prescription covering the first week of shingles. Since then, the skin eruptions under her right breast and around to her back have dried out, but the redness still appears. She has been treating the areas with zinc oxide, an ice pack and a lotion called Sarna which has given her some relief from itching and other discomforts. I know it is a virus affecting the nerves, but I'm surprised at how little information is readily available for help. Could you please explain this disease? A: Shingles, known medically as herpes zoster, is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, the same one that causes chickenpox in children. The virus remains dormant in the nerves for years, but gets reactivated in about 20% of the general population at some time later in life. About 70% of cases occur in people over the age of 50, and up to 50% of people who live to be 80 will experience shingles. All races and genders are affected equally by shingles that can occur at any season or time of the year.

Shingles 1 - Is shingles common?
About 250,000 people in the UK get shingles every year. About 100,000 people of these are affected by post herpetic neuralgia (PHN). 2 - What is shingles?
Shingles (herpes varicella-zoster) is a reappearance of chickenpox. This is often many years after the original chickenpox infection. 3 - Who will get shingles?
Shingles is more likely to occur in older people and by the age of 85, around 60% of us will have had shingles. 4 - How do people get shingles?
When you recover from a chickenpox infection, the virus retreats to a 'junction box' in the nerves beside the spine. It remains there in a dormant state for the rest of your life. Something 'triggers' the virus to reactivate (perhaps when you are run down or unwell, but no one really knows why) and it comes out as shingles. 5 - Is shingles infectious (catching)?

Chicken Pox/Shingles What is chicken pox?
Chicken pox is a common disease caused by the varicella zoster virus which is a member of the herpes virus family. It is very contagious and usually occurs during childhood. Adults can get the disease if they did not have it in childhood. What are the symptoms? Chicken pox most often begins with a slight fever, body aches and loss of appetite. Within 1-2 days, the rash appears usually starting on the chest or back. Initially the rash begins as red spots which then rapidly form blisters and spreads to the rest of the body. The blisters open and form a crust or scab within a few days. The rash can continue to break out for 4-5 days as older lesions crust and heal. Itching can accompany the rash along with fever, swollen lymph nodes, sore throat and general body aches. It is unusual to have chicken pox more than once. Is chicken pox contagious? Chicken pox is contagious through direct contact with the fluid in the blisters and by airborne droplets that are inhaled. Incubation period is 7-21 days. A person is contagious from 1-2 days before the rash appears and until all the lesions form crusts.

Shingles, caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox, affects the nerve endings in the skin. It usually occurs on the skin of the abdomen under the ribs leading toward the naval, but can appear anywhere on the body. An attack of shingles is often preceded by three of four days of intense pain in the affected area. Then numerous and excruciatingly painful and itchy blisters develop, normally lasting between seven and fourteen days. These blisters eventually form crusty scabs and drop off. After an attack of shingles, the pain may continue even after the blisters have disappeared, especially in the elderly. The pain can sometimes last for months or years. This post-herpetic syndrome can be even more painful than the original infection. The page is loading. Please wait...
