What is measles?
Measles is caused by a virus and is a very infectious disease that can be particularly serious in infants and adults. Although measles usually lasts only one to two weeks, it can cause such complications as pneumonia, ear infections, and encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). What are the symptoms of measles? The first symptoms of measles resemble a cold and appear about ten days after exposure to the virus. These include a cough, fever of 101 degrees or greater, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. The rash usually begins a few days later, around the ears and hairline, and spreads to cover the face, trunk, and arms. How soon do symptoms appear?

Measles virus, the cause of measles, is classified as a Morbillivirus. It is mostly seen in the winter and spring. Rubeola is preventable by proper immunization with the measles vaccine. What are the symptoms of the measles? It may take eight to 12 days for a child to develop symptoms of rubeola after being exposed to the disease. It is important to know that a child is contagious one to two days before the onset of signs and symptoms and three to five days after the rash develops. Therefore, children may be contagious before they even know they have the disease. During the early phase of the disease (which lasts between one and four days), symptoms usually resemble those of an upper respiratory infection. The following are the common symptoms of rubeola. However, each child may experience symptoms differently. Symptoms may include:

Diluted patient serum is incubated with purified rubeola virus antigen bound to EIA plate wells. If antibodies to rubeola virus are present, they bind to the antigen and do not rinse off. Subsequently, when enzyme-labelled anti-human IgG is added to the reaction site, it binds to the immobilized antibodies. After washing and the addition of a chromogenic substrate and stop solution, specimens containing antibodies to rubeola produce a color endpoint reaction which is

Excellent, excellent, excellent! I'm an avid reader of books about books, especially other people's annotated lists of books to read, and this is one of the very best I've seen. It's subtitled "A Critical Guide to the Complete Works of 110 Authors," and it's an excellent introduction for even the most serious reader of modern literary fiction to those authors and books one inevitably misses. Some of my favorites are here, including Steven Milhauser, David Lodge, and Jane Smiley, but I was also made to think again about Mian Kundera, Barbara Kingsolver, and a few others by whom I had not been particularly impressed. The biographical notes will also give you some clues to where an author's work comes from, and the annotations on individual books are uniformly excellent even when I disagree with them. This is one for making marginal notes in! The Reading List - Contemporary Fiction A fantastic resource whether you are looking for book club suggestions or ideas for your own reading. I have just begun on the journey to increase my knowledge of contemporary authors and their novels by reading the starred books the ones the editor considers to be "the best" by each author included. I'm sure anyone will "discover" unfamiliar authors or novels not yet read. It makes a terrific gift for the book lovers on your list.
