Guide to Rare/Orphan Diseases What is it?
Parry Romberg syndrome is a disorder that affects the face and nervous system. It typically becomes apparent during childhood or young adulthood when the soft tissue of one side of the face (usually the left) begins to waste away. Generally the first sign is facial changes above the upper jaw or between the nose and upper corner of the lip. As the soft tissue and fat begins to shrink, the skin starts to sink in and distort the face. Over the next three to five years, the mouth, eyebrow, ear, and cheek on the affected side begin to change as well. Are there other symptoms?
