What is complex regional pain syndrome?
Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic pain condition that is believed to be the result of dysfunction in the central or peripheral nervous systems. Typical features include dramatic changes in the color and temperature of the skin over the affected limb or body part, accompanied by intense burning pain, skin sensitivity, sweating, and swelling. CRPS I is frequently triggered by tissue injury; the term describes all patients with the above symptoms but with no underlying nerve injury. Patients with

Physicians use a variety of drugs to treat CRPS. Elevation of the extremity and physical therapy are also used to treat CRPS. Injection of a local anestheticis usually the first step in treatment. TENS (transcutaneous electrical stimulation), a procedure in which brief pulses of electricity are applied to nerve endings under the skin, has helped some patients in relieving chronic pain. In some cases, surgical or chemical sympathectomy interruption of the affected portion of the sympathetic nervous system is necessary to relieve pain. Surgical sympathectomy involves cutting the nerve or nerves, destroying the pain almost instantly, but surgery may also destroy other sensations as well.

    Reflex sympathetic dystrophy hub
Reflex sympathetic dystrophy is a chronic condition characterized by severe burning pain, pathological changes in bone and skin, excessive sweating, tissue swelling, and extreme sensitivity to touch. It occurs especially after injuries from high-velocity impacts such as those from bullets or shrapnel. However, it may occur without apparent injury. One visible sign of reflex sympathetic dystrophy near the site of injury is warm, shiny red skin that later becomes cool and bluish. The pain that patients report is out of proportion to the severity of the injury and gets worse, rather than better, over time. Eventually the joints become stiff from disuse, and the skin, muscles, and bone atrophy. Hello! Welcome to JoeyLee.com! My name IS Joey Lee, hence the domain name, JoeyLee.com (duh). I'm 38 years old, and not only gay, but also physically disabled.
In February of 1992, I injured my right knee while working as a counselor for sexually and/or physically abused children/teens. Well, to make a very long story short, that injury lead to the diagnosis of both R eflex S ympathetic D ystrophy (RSD/RSDS), and A vascular N ecrosis (AVN).
Both RSD and AVN are considered ''Chronic Pain Syndromes'', with RSD being the worst, yet most untreated, disease, in the Medical Field.
So, being Gay and Physically Disabled, I decided that, rather than waste away my life on the sofa, I'd do my very best to help others that may be dealing with being Disabled and/or being Gay.
I share my life with my Life-Partner, David*. We have been together for over 11 1/2 wonderful, yet pretty tough years.
I have tried to separate this website into two main categories, being Gay, and being Disabled.

I am seeking updated information on Reflex Sympathetic
Dystrophy. I was diagnosed in November of 95. Since then, I
have had numerous nerve blocks, approximately thirty, some
in the upper back and some in the neck. My doctor and my-
self have been searching desperately for any new techinique
for treatment, he has received negative information on sym-
pathectomy. If I have to live with this the rest of my life, there would be
    no way that I could.
I am new on the net, and I am sure that I saw a mailing
address, that you could send to for more information on this disease, and if I may say, I feel very confident and honored to have the privledge of e-mailing this, to such a fine and well-known institution. Thank-you and look forward to a response. Next Article Previous Article Return to Topic Menu
