Most patients and many practitioners alike seem to think that Zinc is a cure-all for all prostate-related
problems, or that they all result from insufficient zinc intake, however only an enlarged prostate (benign
prostatic hypertrophy / hyperplasia, or BPH), is at times linked to actual below-normal cellular levels of
zinc.  Prostatitis invariably presents with above-normal, to typically very high cellular levels of zinc, and
symptoms are promptly worsened by either supplementing extra zinc, consuming foods that are high in
zinc, or through other life style aspects that synergistically promote greater zinc retention.
Some individuals claim that their condition improved after supplementing zinc, but it always turns out
that they either did not have prostatitis in the first place - i.e. they self-diagnosed their condition, or that
a misdiagnosis was made by an unqualified practitioner.  However, even among qualified urologists there is frequently disagreement on both, the proper classification of the disorder, and/or the best

It is thought that most cases of prostatitis result from bacterial infection, but evidence of infection is not always found. An infected or inflamed prostate can cause painful urination and ejaculation, and if left untreated, serious complications. Incidence and Prevalence Prostatitis can affect men of any age and it is estimated that 50% of men experience the disorder during their lifetime. Prostatitis is the most common urological disorder in men over the age of 50 and the third most common disorder in men younger than 50. According to the National Institutes of Health, prostatitis accounts for 25% of all office visits involving the genitourinary system by young and middle-aged men.

PROSTATITIS The term prostatitis is often used to describe a variety of inflammatory conditions of the prostate gland. The prostate is a gland which sits at the base of the bladder in men and functions in reproduction (see diagram). Prostatitis is a commonly occurring and confusing ailment. The diagnosis is sometimes difficult to make and the disease is sometimes difficult to treat effectively. This combination of difficulties often leads to frustration in both patients and doctors. Symptoms of Prostatitis The symptoms of prostatitis may vary. They often include: low back pain, burning upon urination, frequent urination, urgent urination, or pain deep in the rectum and scrotal areas. At times the symptoms may also include generalized malaise, joint aches, muscle aches, fever or pain almost anywhere within the pelvis and scrotum. The symptoms of prostatitis may be mild or they may be overwhelming. Causes of Prostatitis The causes of prostatitis are sometimes well understood but are more often obscure. Prostatitis is often caused by bacteria similar to those which cause other types of urinary infections. Some patients have no evidence of bacteria in their prostates and they are often thought to carry smaller microorganisms like Chalmydia or Ureaplasma. Still other patients have no evidence of any microorganisms at all and the reasons for their symptoms of prostatitis are poorly understood. Your Examination When your physician examines you, a digital rectal exam may reveal a very tender prostate gland. At times, however, your prostate may not be tender at all! Your physician may choose to massage your prostate gland and examine the secretions or he may choose to examine just your urine. Because there are such a wide variety of symptom . complexes and causes for prostatitis many physicians approach it differently. All examinations for prostatitis however should include a digital rectal exam.

Called Pelvic Myoneuropathy , the theory combines several other theories in a logical way and provides an elegant solution to the conundrum of this disorder. However, much theoretical and experimental work still needs to be done to establish the validity of this model. Read more...
More Bacteria in Controls than Patients! A September 2003 study by some of the world's top prostatitis researchers produced the shocking finding that normal men have slightly more bacteria in their semen than men with chronic prostatitis (pelvic myoneuropathy). It also showed the traditional Stamey 4-glass test to be invalid for diagnosis of this disorder, and that inflammation cannot be localized to any particular area of the lower GU tract. Read

Prostatitis: Disorders of the Prostate
Prostatitis may account for up to 25 percent of all office visits by young and middle-aged men for complaints involving the genital and urinary systems. The term prostatitis actually encompasses four disorders:
  • Acute bacterial prostatitis is the least common of the four types but also the easiest to diagnose and treat effectively. Men with this disease often have chills, fever, pain in the lower back and genital area, urinary frequency and urgency often at night, burning or painful urination, body aches, and a demonstrable infection of the urinary tract as evidenced by white blood cells and bacteria in the urine. The treatment is an appropriate antibiotic. Chronic bacterial prostatitis , also relatively uncommon, is acute prostatitis associated with an underlying defect in the prostate, which becomes a focal point for bacterial persistence in the urinary tract. Effective treatment usually requires identifying and removing the defect and then treating the infection with antibiotics. However, antibiotics often do not cure this condition. Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome is the most common but least understood form of prostatitis. It is found in men of any age, its symptoms go away and then return without warning, and it may be inflammatory or noninflammatory. In the inflammatory form, urine, semen, and other fluids from the prostate show no evidence of a known infecting organism but do contain the kinds of cells the body usually produces to fight infection. In the noninflammatory form, no evidence of inflammation, including infection-fighting cells, is present.

INTRODUCTION:
This non profit site is directed to herbal balancing of hormones in the aging male for the purpose of eliminating and or reducing health issues such as prostatitis, hair loss, urinary tract problems testicular atrophy / degeneration and mood changes. Some 70% of men over age 40, and many younger, can resolve all such problems with the use of a combination of herbal supplements. Most find relief in just 3 days.
Let there be no mistake in the conclusion that most hormone issues in aging men are caused by low total testosterone (secondary hypogonadism) and or low free testosterone. Low means low normal and not just results outside the range given by the lab.

Biking and Prostatitis
Webmaster's note: many prostatitis sufferers write to the newsgroup sci.med.prostate.prostatitis and ask about the relationship between bike riding and prostatitis. Your webmaster believes there is one. This page contains some newsgroup postings on the topic. I bicycle a lot. Can this bring about prostatitis? Can I have prostatitis without bacterial or fungal infection? What can help? Biker shorts, a cup? I gave up bike riding, and so do most other people with prostatitis, from what I can tell. Some alternatives: recumbent bikes, gel pack seats. Your prostate (sometimes called the "seat of masculinity" is fairly close to the surface of the area that touches the seat of the average road bike. So every bump and pothole you go over is transmitted to that region. A recent report here in the states attempted to link bike riding with impotence, by the way. 2.) I'm not having any dysfunction, just dull pain. While riding, my right testicle has pulled all the way up into my groin twice. This is excruciating. Is this normal in prostatitis? (my doctor says no bicycle for one week) Exercise is important generally, and, I think, especially so to prostatitis sufferers. I've heard of what you describe, a testicle ascending, but never relative to prostatitis. I wouldn't assume that your doctor is right that you do have prostatitis, by the way. No one really knows what prostatitis is, so be wary of any diagnosis pertaining to it. Did he take any cultures of any sort? Probably not. He doesn't really know, he's just going by the law of averages.
