What is Your Prostate?
The prostate makes some of the milky fluid (semen) that carries sperm. The gland is the size of a walnut and is found just below the bladder, which stores urine. The prostate wraps around a tube (the urethra) that carries urine from the bladder out through the tip of the penis ( Figure 1 ). During a man's orgasm (sexual climax), muscles squeeze the prostate's fluid into the urethra. Sperm, which are made in the testicles, also go into the urethra during orgasm. The milky fluid carries the sperm through the penis during orgasm.

BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERTROPHY
What is it?
The prostate is an internal gland in men between the bottom of the bladder and the top of the penis. The urethra, the tube through which urine passes down from the bladder when you pass water, runs through the middle of it. Benign prostatic hypertrophy is a swelling of this gland. It is not cancerous. Because the prostate surrounds the urethra, when it swells it can block the flow of water.
What causes it?
There is no special cause for this condition. It just sometimes happens as you get older.
Who gets it?
Since only men have prostate glands, only men can get this condition. The single big risk factor is age - the older you are, the more likely you are to suffer from it. It is unlikely to start before 45.
What are the symptoms?

Serenoa Repens: A Phytotherapeutic Agent for Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy
In Brief: In men with BPH, oral administration of Serenoa repens 160mg twice daily for 1 to 3 months was generally superior to placebo in improving subjective and objective symptoms of BPH. The drug appears to have similar efficacy to finasteride as evidenced by data from over 1000 men. Few significant differences were demonstrated between Serenoa repens and a -adrenoceptor blockers in small comparative studies. Gastrointestinal effects, such as nausea and abdominal pain, have been the most commonly reported adverse effects associated with Serenoa repens in clinical trials. BPH is a heterogeneous disease, consequently no single agent or group of drugs is likely to be effective in all patients. Available data suggest that Serenoa repens may be useful as an alternative to the better established agents a
Introduction
Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) is a common condition in older men; approximately 50% of men aged 60 years and 90% of those aged 85 years present with BPH. The condition is characterised by a nonmalignant enlargement of the prostate resulting from excessive cellular growth of both the glandular and the stromal elements of the gland.

Prostate Problems The prostate gland surrounds the urethra (the tube that carries urine and semen through
the penis). It's located below the bladder. This gland is "doughnut-shaped.
It produces semen, which works to keep sperm lubricated and mobile,
and aids the bladder in the flow of urine. After a man reaches puberty, his prostate gradually grows from roughly the size
of a small marble to about the size of a golf ball. Around 50 and due to a variety of factors,
his prostate begins to grow again. This increased growth can cause a variety of problems,
most commonly Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH) or an enlarged prostate, prostatitis,
and even prostate cancer. The real cause of most of these problems is unknown. They may be
related to hormonal changes brought on by aging. As a man ages, an increased
amount of hormones such as estrogen and prolactin decreases the rate of which
testosterone and the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) into which testosterone is converted by 5-alpha-reductase are eliminated from the prostate. This excessive accumulation

Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy
The prostate is a small gland present in men, located just below the bladder. The prostate encloses the urine passage (urethra) and is usually about the size of a walnut. Although men have a prostate all their lives it usually begins to enlarge at mid-life. As men age, the prostate continues to grow and may push in on the urine passage. A prostate gland that is larger than normal is said to be hypertrophic, and the condition is called benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). An enlarged prostate does not indicate prostate cancer. The enlargement caused by aging is inevitable, but suffering from symptoms of an enlarged prostate is not. The Department of Urology at Wayne State University has extensive experience treating men with BPH. We have been a leader in urologic research and innovative surgical treatment. Most of the diagnostic procedures for BPH can be completed in office.

TURP
Transurethral resection of the prostate is a common surgery for BPH often nicknamed "roto-rooter" surgery. In a TURP an instrument is passed through the urine passage to the point where the prostate is blocking the flow of urine. The excess tissue is then cut away. There is no incision on the outside of the body and usually a hospital stay of only a few days is required. TURP has been used for many years and most patients notice a rapid improvement in symptoms which lasts for many years.

During normal aging, however, the gland usually grows larger. This enlargementwith aging is called Benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH).
http://www.biogro.us/prostatol.html
Prostatol Prostate cancer killed over 40,000 Americans in 1995. Prostate cancer is second only to lung cancer as a male cancer killer in the United States. Prostate is a gland within the male reproductive system that is located just below the bladder. The prostate surrounds the beginning of the urethra, the canal that empties the bladder. During normal aging, however, the gland usually grows larger. This enlargement with aging is called Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). Both BPH and prostate cancer can cause similar problems in older men and resulting symptoms commonly include slowing of the urinary stream and urinating more frequently, particularly at night. Prostatitis is another Prostate disease that causes pain and discomfort for many men. Prostatitis refers to inflammation (infected by bacteria) of the prostate gland. With Prostatitis, patient may have frequent urge to urinate or difficulty in urinating, burning during or after urination, and various sexual problems.

The enlarged prostate gland seen here not only has enlarged lateral lobes, but also a greatly enlarged median lobe that obstructs the prostatic urethra. This led to obstruction with bladder hypertrophy, as evidenced by the prominent trabeculation of the bladder wall seen here from the mucosal surface. Obstruction with stasis also led to the formation of the yellow-brown calculus (stone).
