21. BOR Syndrome
There are also members of the potters syndrome Support Forum who have BOR in theirfamilies and they can provide you with additional information regarding
http://www.geocities.com/potters_syndrome/bor.html
For most people who have a child with Bilateral Renal Agenesis (BRA - no kidneys), it is a "fluke," a one-time occurrence that the doctors cannot explain. However, for some people, it is the result of a genetic disorder
and can happen again in subsequent children.  One of the known genetic disorders that can cause BRA is a syndrome known as BOR.  According to recent studies, BOR is believed to occur in 1 in 40,000 people. It is estimated that 2% of the profoundly deaf have BOR.
Taken from the BOR Research Project pamphlet put out by Boys Town National Research Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska, USA: What is BOR? BOR (Branchio-OTO-Renal) is a dominant genetic condition which can result in hearing loss, ear pits, branchial (neck) cysts or fistulas, and kidney anomalies. Individuals with BOR ususally do not have all of these symptoms, thus BOR is said to have variable expression. And although these are the most common symptoms, many others have been reported but are not common. About 90% of BOR patients have a hearing loss. The hearing loss found in BOR is highly variable. The loss can be sensorineural, conductive or mixed.  It can be stable or progressive and the severity can range from mild to profound. Ear pits are found in abour 80% of the BOR cases. An ear pit is a small hole immediately in front of the top of the ear. Of those persons with ear pits, some have only one while others have one in front of each ear. Some individuals have deformed outer-ear(s), middle-ear(s), and/or inner-ear(s).

Re: Potter's Syndrome
Posted by Walt Stoll on June 02, 1998 at 12:18:01: Dear Georgina, Like many chronic problems, the best solution is prevention. That is a little late once the damage is done. HOWEVER, those who have had a child with this condition are a little more likely to learn how to never have something like that happen again. If everyone would read Paavo Airola, ND's classic "Every Woman's Book" (at least 2 years before conception) there would be less than 1% of the birth defects we see today. There would be much less hyperactivity, learning deficiencies and aggressive children as well. He died about 10 years ago but his family continues to keep this essential knowledge in print. There has been a lot learned in the past 10 years that, once the reader is sensitized to the process, would stick out like sore thumbs in the recent literature. Let us know what you learn. Walt

Baby Jessica
by Jana Date: Sun, 31 Jan 1999 As I sit here and read all these heart breaking stories feeling terrible for all these people, I felt is was about time for me to open up and share my story with you. We were so excited. When the day came me, my husband, and my dad made the drive to the hospital. At that time I was given my last ultrasound to see the position of the baby. She was still breach. Also at that time I was told that her lungs looked a little under developed; that at worst she would have to stay in the hospital for an extra 2-3 weeks. But once again, "not to worry." We went into delivery all excited. All I can remember was seeing all the doctors and nurses faces. For awhile I didn't hear her cry. It seems like forever but she did. I asked if everything was ok. They said yes. She had a hard time breathing but everything would be fine. They wouldn't let me see her. She needed to be cleaned and put on oxygen. We started to get very upset but we did remember what the doctor did say about her lungs. I was put in recovery when a doctor came in to tell me that the baby's heart was in distress. HER HEART!
