Gary, as you may have seen elsewhere, my attack came on VERY
suddenly. I had virtually no neurological symptoms but after going to bed
in one piece I awoke an hour and a half later with no leg movement.
For the first few days in hospital, despite roughly 180 mgm of
morphine per day I would almost go crazy if anyone even touched a hair on my
chest not rubbing my chest but just rubbing the hair!!! That feeling
moved down to parallel my "lesion" (t6 to t12) for about the next eight
months now with no analgesia of any sort (except maybe Zoloftit really
does seem to have got better since I started it) I have none of these feelings above about L1 now my legs feel like they are "asleep" pretty annoying when it's 24 hours a day but hey,, feeling is better than no feeling or is it? As long as maybe some functional movement can follow I can tolerate this. most of the time

PARESTHESIA Q: What is paresthesia? A: Paresthesia is the name of an unpleasant numbness that follows oral surgery, usually an extraction. The numbness can affect the lip, cheek, chin or tongue, or any combination thereof, on the side of the extraction. Paresthesia can occur after any extraction, but usually sets in only following extraction of a wisdom tooth. It is caused by nerve injury, usually to the mandibular or lower jaw nerve. The lingual nerve of the tongue, though, can also be affected. The risk of paresthesia is slight following a routine, non-traumatic extraction. The risk is greatest in a difficult extraction when the roots of the tooth are close to the canal in the lower jaw. In most cases, paresthesia is temporary, although it can last for several weeks or months. In roughly one percent of all impacted third molar surgery, the numbness is permanent. Before deciding on an extraction, be sure to talk with your dentist about the potential of paresthesia, as well as other complications like damage to the temporomandibular joints and post-surgical infection. Weigh those considerations against the removal of teeth that may be doing no harm.

Dodge City Daily Globe Paresthesia refers to an abnormal burning or prickling sensation in the hands, arms, legs or feet. Patients also describe the painless sensation as tingling, numbness, "pins and needles" or itching. Paresthesia can occur whenever pressure is placed on a nerve. The feeling normally disappears with relieved pressure. The condition can become chronic for those individuals with widespread neurological disease or traumatic nerve damage. A stroke, multiple sclerosis, and encephalitis as well as accidents can trigger paresthesia. Carpal tunnel from repetitive tasks can also cause the problem. Paresthesia in upper extremities usually originates from nerves in the neck while paresthesia in the lower extremities normally comes from nerve problems in the lumbar region or lower back. Chiropractic has long been known to eliminate nerve constrictions in the back and neck. Carpal tunnel is also becoming a chiropractic specialty. If you suffer from loss of feeling in your body, make an appointment as soon as possible with your doctor of chiropractic.

    Introduction: Paresthesia
Paresthesia: Pins-and-needles or burning-like sensations. Paresthesia: Paresthesia is a term that refers to an abnormal burning or prickling sensation which is generally felt in the hands, arms, legs, or feet, but may occur in any part of the body. The sensation, which arises spontaneously without apparent stimulus and is usually not painful, may also be described as tingling or numbness, skin crawling, buzzing, or itching. Most people have experienced transient (temporary) paresthesia at some time in their lives; it occurs whenever inadvertent pressure is placed on a nerve and causes what many describe as a "pins and needles" feeling. The feeling quickly goes away once the pressure is relieved. For some people, however, paresthesia can become a chronic condition caused by an underlying disorder .
