The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) is the medical specialty society representing physicians practicing in the field of Pain Medicine. As a medical specialty society, the Academy is involved in education, training, advocacy, and research in the specialty of Pain Medicine. The practice of Pain Medicine is multi-disciplinary in approach, incorporating modalities from various specialties to ensure the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of the pain patient. AAPM represents the diverse scope of the field through membership from a variety of origins, including such specialties as anesthesiology, internal medicine, neurology, neurological surgery, orthopedic surgery, physiatry, and psychiatry. The integration of these specialties is essential to treating the pain patient and establishing continuity of care. Pain Medicine specialists use a broad-based approach to treat all pain disorders, ranging from pain as a symptom of disease (eudynia) to pain as the primary disease (maldynia). My Name is Robyn Bear. I have experienced six miscarriages and know first hand the pain and heartache that women suffer. Men suffer as well, but they grieve differently. Many times my husband held me as I fell to the floor screaming. He cried also, but I know and understand that the pain he feels is different than mine. How could he even begin to understand the emotional pain and emptiness I felt? I comforted myself by reading about miscarriages, but only found books on technical and medical support. I needed to know that I wasn't alone. I needed a book with true stories of women like myself, but I found none. I decided to do one myself. I wanted this book to be supportive and to allow the many suffering parents out there to know that the way that they feel is normal, and that they are not alone. After collecting stories from women all over the world I realized how many of us suffer, and we suffer alone. We learn not to tell anyone about our miscarriages or infertility problems, because of the many well meant, but hurtful comments made by friends, relatives and co-workers. The men and women in this book and on this website tell about the depression they went through, the lack of concentration, their marital problems, and losing job after job because all they can think about is having a child. Some, I am glad to say, have gone on to have a successful pregnancy, while others are still struggling for that happy ending that we all so desperately need and deserve. I decided to put my book on-line for others to read. Please feel free to read all the stories you would like and bookmark my page so you may return.
