able to function normally and ready
    to recommence my life
Hi, my name is Amanda James In 1997 I developed ME, a condition which is now also commonly called Post Viral Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Whatever you call the condition, it can have far reaching effects on your physical and mental health, rendering the sufferer incapable of doing normal things without feeling exhausted and ill.
Do you wonder where your old self has gone?
Do you suffer from constant aches and pains?
Do you want to stop feeling tired, emotional and full of aches and pains? Most people do Through a twist of fate I was introduced to a school of thought on the subject which completely changed the way I perceived my condition and very soon impacted very positively indeed on the way I felt, my levels of energy and my ultimate return to normal routines. Let Me Show You How You Can Heal yourself with your diet If you have got ME you know about it – you may not know what it is, but you know there is something wrong.

M.E. (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) , also known as C.F.S. (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) , is a chronic disorder which leaves the patient suffering from intense lethargy, pain in the muscles and joints, plus mental confusion and many other serious and unpleasant symptoms. It often leaves the patient with long-term disability and facing a miserable existence. At least 400,000 people in the U.K. alone suffer from M.E., and it even affects children as young as five years of age. Many patients become bedridden for long periods, and some need to be hospitalised.
Since the original publication of the 'Osteopathy and M.E.' booklet, many interesting discoveries have been made during Raymond Perrin's research at the University of Salford, U.K.
Firstly clinical trials scientifically demonstrated that osteopathic treatment did indeed help with symptoms associated with M.E. [Perrin RN, Edwards J and Hartley P (January/February 1998). An evaluation of the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment on symptoms associated with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. A preliminary report. Journal of Medical Engineering and Technology, 22 (1), 1-13.]
At present we are investigating why osteopathy does help.

    Davis, California HISTORY
In the spring and summer of 1975, there was a major, severe epidemic of a communical, apparent viral disease at the Mercy San Juan Hospital in Carmicheal, a suburb of Sacramento, California. It occurred in February, and the bulk of the disease happened between July and November of 1975. Cases continued to occur, although few, until 1978 The epidemic involved all departments of the hospital. It was equally severe in all departments. I was appointed chairmen of a committee to investigate the outbreak. At the time, I feared that there might be fatalities and so Asked that the CDC (Communicable Disease Center, Atlanta, Georgia) become involved. An epidemiologist fro there spent a week at the hospital. Another epidemiologist from the State came for the day. Cultures were obtained for all known viruses, bacteria, and rickettsiae, and all were negative. The disease was apparently due to a new agent of disease. At the time, we did a literature search and found three reports of outbreaks that were called EPIDERMIC PHLEBODYNIA (meaning painful veins). While the disease at Mercy San Juan was somewhat similar, it included many more features that were subscribed in epidermic phlebodynia and so at the time, I believed it was not the same disease. Later , additional literature search showed that the disease was very similar to epidermic neuromyasthenia/ myalgic encephalomyelitis. But toublingly, very few if any, vascular features were mentioned.

    The size of the problem
CFS/ME is a major world-wide public health problem. There are considerable difficulties in establishing good figures for the number of people affected, but accepting that the figures are approximate, the following generalisations can be made regarding the UK:
    • CFS/ME affects between 2 and 4 people per 1000 of the population
it affects people of all ages, including children as young as five years old
the commonest age of onset is between the early twenties to mid-forties
CFS/ME is diagnosed about twice as often in women compared to men it affects all social classes.

    About Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and Fibromyalgia
    Myalgic Encephalomyelitis
Myalgic = muscle pain Encephalo = brain Myel = central nervous system Itis = inflammation Classified by the World Health Organization as a disease of the nervous system. ME is the subject of research by the Centers for Disease Control in the US and top researchers around the world. Also called:
    • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) Post-Viral Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (PVFS) Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFDS)
    Fibromyalgia Syndrome
Fibro = joint Myalgia = muscle pain Classified by the World Health Organization as a disease of the musculoskeletal system. Thought by many researchers to be a condition the same as, or related to ME.
    What causes ME/CFS and FM?
The cause has not yet been identified. On-going research suggest that an infectious agent (possibly a virus) or other triggers invade brain and muscle cells, causing the immune system in some people to become chronically overactive.
    Who, When and How Long?
ME and FM can be contracted by anyone at any age. A small minority of people recover completely, some experience a series of relapses and remissions, while in others the symptoms may persist for many years. An early and accurate diagnosis with immediate and appropriate treatment measures greatly enhances the chances for recovery.

A CALL FOR ACTION: THE RECOGNITION OF MYALGIC ENCEPHALOMYELITIS AS A SERIOUS AND DEBILITATING DISEASE
View Current Signatures Sign the Petition To: United States Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, and Centers for Disease Control We, the undersigned, respectfully demand that Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), an internationally recognized neurological disease, be also formally recognized as a distinct clinical entity in the United States by the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control. It is time to make the case definition/diagnostic criteria explicit in the name.
Currently, most patients are diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a poorly defined, misunderstood, controversial syndrome which remains underfunded and underresearched. The name Chronic Fatigue Syndrome itself has trivialized the illness and further subjected these patients to incredulity and ridicule. The CFS rubric has not only neglected and failed to help those with ME, it has harmed them. ME patients will not improve with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or graded exercise (in fact, exercise will make them worse) - yet these are considered treatments for CFS. Simply "renaming" CFS will not solve this problem.
ME should not be considered a subset of CFS, for the hallmarks of ME will not be present in the population of CFS patients once the Ramsay criteria are established in the US. Patients with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis under the CFS criteria must wait for six (6) months before acquiring a diagnosis, a critical period in which possible recovery is diminished by lack of proper treatment. The ME definition does not require a six month wait. (See Ramsay Definition at: http://www.egroups.co.uk/message/ME-itis_NOW/2.)

General Discussion Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is thought to be an infectious disorder affecting the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous systems and the muscles. Major symptoms may include general exhaustion, headache, muscle pain, weakness, and possible mental changes. The exact cause of this disorder is not known, but researchers believe a virus associated with an immune system abnormality may be responsible. Adults are most commonly affected, with more cases seen in females than in males. Epidemics of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis have occurred worldwide, but cases tend to appear sporadically. Symptoms can resolve in a few weeks but may recur at any time. Other cases may persist for many years.

    Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Alternative Cure
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is caused by viral infection.
Cure is possible with electromedicine and rebalancing the hormonal/glandular system.
If you feel like you have the flu constantly or chronic mononucleosis then you probably have an ongoing viral infection causing Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). This viral disease was beating me to death for 16 years until I tried this alternative treatment
The Epstein Barr virus is a common cause of this disease, and when it (or any other causative virus) is treated with electric current it loses its ability to infect human white blood cells. Without being able to infect cells with their nucleic acids then the viruses are stopped from being able to use the human cells to reproduce themselves. Being left 'free-floating' in the blood serum (fluid), then the white blood cells will eventually take the viruses out of the bloodstream one-by-one (which is their job as immune cells). This type of treatment with electricity presents the most important step to a possible cure. Researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NY discovered this activity of elecricity against viruses , stopping their ability to attach to human cells receptor sites. The electricity needed was only a scant 50-100 micro-amps (millionths of an ampere) which is not enough to feel. Afterwards they created a

    Conventional Wisdom
: Through its history, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) was perceived to be psychosomatic illness with no organic causes. This has only begun to change in recent years, and many professionals still outspokenly advocate or subtly treat M.E. as a psychiatric disorder. The main research and treatment directions involve anti-depressants, psychotherapy, and exercise. Alternative Challenge : Evidence that M.E. is an organic disorder is overwhelming, but obtusely dismissed by the medical establishment. Exercise often triggers relapses and is inappropriate as a universal treatment. Psychotherapy is useful inasmuch as it is helpful to any other chronic illness or disability. Research needs to refocus on organic dysfunctions. Articles on this site

There are different diagnostic criteria in different parts of the world, possibly because the causative agent differs. In the UK the syndrome is commonly associated with a respiratory or gastrointestinal enterovirus infection.
