Hello, I am pleased to announce the web release of British Columbia gay youth activist, Bruce Lyth's keynote address at the 3rd Agape: Sex-and-Gender Differences, Education, and Culture conference held on December 5-6, 2003 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Bruce's speech addresses how his high school's Gay Straight Student Alliance (GSA) replaced barriers with bridges as they held what they describe as the first gay pride day in a Canadian high school. Bruce's powerful keynote address helped to inspire students in Edmonton, Alberta to form two GSAs in their local high schools. We hope that Bruce's story will continue to inspire and empower other youth, teachers, and allies who are striving to create safe, caring, and inclusive schools and communities for all students regardless of their sex-and-gender differences.

General Discussion
Mullerian Aplasia is a rare disorder that affects only females. It is characterized by the absence of the uterus, the cervix, and the upper part of the vagina in a female who has normal ovarian function and normal external genitalia. Although females with this disorder develop normal secondary sexual characteristics during puberty (e.g., breast development and pubic hair), the failure of menstrual cycles to begin (primary amenorrhea) is usually the initial symptom. The exact cause of Mullerian Aplasia is not known. The unusual physical characteristics associated with this disorder seem to result from developmental abnormalities during embryonic or fetal growth.

Hermaphrodites and the Medical Invention of Sex by Alice Domurat Dreger Drawing on remarkable case studies, scholar Alice Dreger explores encounters between hermaphroditespeople born with "ambiguous" sexual anatomyand the medical profession of late 19th-century Britain and France. Comparing protocols applied today in similar situations, this meticulously researced book will compel the attention of anyone interested in the meanings and foundations of sexual identity. 24 photos. Punctuated with remarkable case studies, this book explores extraordinary encounters between hermaphroditespeople born with "ambiguous" sexual anatomyand the medical and scientific professionals who grappled with them. Alice Dreger focuses on events in France and Britain in the late nineteenth century, a moment of great tension for questions of sex roles. While feminists, homosexuals, and anthropological explorers openly questioned the natures and purposes of the two sexes, anatomical hermaphrodites suggested a deeper question: just how many human sexes are there? Ultimately hermaphrodites led doctors and scientists to another surprisingly difficult question: what is sex, really?

Clinically, this association may masquerade as a case of rectal agenesis with ano/recto vaginal fistual and the diagnosis is often missed. We describe a case of this unusual association and briefly describe the various surgical reconstructive options available.
