The uvea provides most of the blood supply to the retina. Causes of uveitis can include autoimmune disorders, infection, or exposure to toxins. However in many cases, the cause remains unknown. The most common form of uveitis is anterior uveitis, which involves inflammation in the front part of the eye, which is usually isolated to the iris. This condition is often called iritis. The inflammation may be associated with autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis , but most cases occur in healthy people and do not indicate an underlying disease. The disorder may affect only one eye and is most common in young and middle-aged people. A history of an autoimmune disease is a risk factor.

Iritis
Iritis is the inflammation of the iris and sometimes the ciliary body as well. This usually occurs in only one eye. If treated correctly and sufficiently early, iritis does not result in permanent damage.
In many cases, the cause of iritis is unknown
What is iritis?
Iritis is the inflammation of the iris (the ring of coloured tissue surrounding the pupil of the eye). Iritis is the most common form of a family of conditions called uveitis. The uvea extends from the front to the back of the eye and comprises the iris, the ciliary body which is next to the iris and the choroid body which is at the back of the eye surface. Anterior uveitis predominantly involves the iris, but the ciliary body can be involved as well. In this case it is called iridocyclitis.

OCULAR SYMPTOMS AND DIAGNOSIS
Introduction: Eye Pain
Read this important information before proceeding further:
These sections are not intended to replace the professional examination and diagnosis by a physician, and they are presented here purely for informational purposes. All possible diagnoses and treatment options are not covered, and the information discussed should not be taken as a recommendation to self-diagnose and self-treat a condition. A misdiagnosed or improperly treated eye condition can result in a permanent loss of vision, or a permanent loss of function of the eye or visual system. In the case of any eye problem, seek medical attention promptly. This can include emergency room treatment, as well as treatment by a medical physician or eyecare provider.
Eye pain can originate from many different places within the eye, orbit (the bony eye socket), and around the orbit. Almost any eye problem that causes some discomfort can also cause eye pain, if the condition is bad enough. (For example, a dry eye problem usually causes a gritty eye sensation. But severe dry eye will cause eye pain.) This page discusses four conditions that are known to cause severe eye pain. Many of the conditions causing severe eye pain are associated with underlying medical conditions. Other conditions capable of causing eye pain that are discussed on other pages of this Symptom and Diagnosis section are listed below with possible distinguishing features.

Iritis is an inflammatory problem of the iris, the colored part of the eye. The doctor can detect iritis during an examination of the eye with a slit lamp microscope. The doctor will also carefully examine inside the eye to determine if other parts of the eye are involved.
Dislocated lens

DESCRIPTION: Lens dislocation may be partial or complete, and may be hereditary or result from trauma. Vision is blurred if the lens is dislocated out of the line of vision. A quivering iris may be a symptom of lens dislocation, due to the lack of lens attachment and support.
Uveitis

Anterior uveitis (also known as iritis) involves the iris and ciliary body and is the most common type; intermediate uveitis affects the ciliary body, vitreous and retina; posterior uveitis involves the retina, choroid and optic nerve; and diffuse uveitis affects structures both in the front and back of the eye. The symptoms of uveitis depend on whether it is anterior, intermediate, posterior or diffuse.

Kerstin S.
Re: Iritis (woher) Hallo Kerstin!
