Up-to-date information on infertility
SEATTLE — October 14, 2002 — There's more to family planning than preventing pregnancy before you are ready. Having a baby also involves preparation and forethought so that pregnancy occurs when the time is right. Focus on Fertility™, a new education campaign launched today by the American Infertility Association (AIA), spotlights the facts about fertility so people can maximize their ability to conceive a child when they are ready.
A national survey conducted by the AIA revealed a general lack of knowledge about fertility. Incredibly, only one person out of 12,000-plus respondents answered all questions correctly. The most commonly missed question on the survey asked respondents after what length of time they thought a couple would need to consult a physician about the possibility of fertility problems. A couple is considered medically infertile if they are trying to conceive but have not done so in one year. However, nearly one third of the respondents put that number closer to two-and-a-half years, while 18 percent thought it was five years.
"These numbers tell me that couples are waiting way too long before seeking medical help to become pregnant. The earlier you see a fertility specialist, the better your chances are for success," said Pamela Madsen, executive director of AIA. "With Focus on Fertility™, our intent is to inform women and men about ways to protect their fertility, and steps they might take if they experience fertility problems, so they can make more informed decisions about family building."

Homeopathic Aid For Childless Couples

Kuala Lumpur: Childless couples now need not wait long for the arrival of the stork as there are various mothods, both modern and traditional, to help them become parents.
These methods include artificial insemination and in-vitro fertilisation for the sterile individuals.
However, many couples are not aware of the help they can obtain from homeopathic treatment.
Homeopathic practitioner, who is also the president of Malaysian Homeopathic Medical Practitioners Association, Prof Dr Sir Nik Omar bin Nik Daud said homeopathy was a very safe way, especially for childless Muslim couples who were reluctant to go through 'other methods' practised in conventional medicine.
Dr Nik Omar, who has 25 years experience in homeopathy, said the 'Homeopathic Therapeutic of Infertility' HTI-P 2000 formula was the alternative treatment for sterile couples.

You Are Not Alone! Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a complex endocrine disturbance found in 5 - 30% of the world's female population. First diagnosed in 1935 as Stein - Levinthal Syndrome, it is one of the most common causes of
infertility, and yet it still is misdiagnosed in most cases.
The symptoms of PCOS vary within each individual, but common complaints include: irregular menstrual periods, male pattern baldness, obesity or unexplained weight gain, excessive facial and/or body hair, insulin resistance and infertility. Women who have PCOS have an increased risk of adult onset diabetes, hypertension, early onset heart disease, cancers of the reproductive organs, and a higher chance of miscarriage and infertility. Though there is currently no cure for this disorder, it can be controlled to an extent with certain medications and a proper diet.
I want to add my name to the list of "cysters" out there on the web, those who know what they are dealing with, and those who are just now discovering what their bodies have been telling them all along. Just knowing that what I am facing has been dealt with for decades, gives me the strength and courage to make it through another day. Thank you all! We are angels with but one wing, and to fly we must embrace each other.

Overcoming Infertility
by Tamar Nordenberg Myth or fact: If a couple is having trouble conceiving a child, the man should try wearing loose underwear? That's a fact, according to a study on "Tight-fitting Underwear and Sperm Quality" published June 29, 1996, in the scientific journal The Lancet. Tight-fitting underwearas well as hot tubs and saunasis not recommended for men trying to father a child because it may raise testes temperature to a point where it interferes with sperm production. But couples having difficulty getting pregnant can tell you the solution is almost never as simple as wearing boxers instead of briefs. Lisa (who asked that her last name not be used) tried for more than two years to get pregnant without success. "Everyone gave me advice," she says. "My mother said I should just go to church and pray more. My friends said, 'Try to relax and not think about it' or 'You're just overstressed. You work too much.'" Actually, psychological stress is more likely a result of infertility than the cause, according to
