HepatitisA
  • Hepatitis A virus is passed in the stool of infected persons. Hepatitis A is usually spread from person to person by hand-to-mouth contact with stool from an infected person. Prevention against hepatitis A includes: 1) hepatitis A vaccine for long-term protection, 2) good personal hygiene and sanitation, and 3) immune globulin for short-term prevention.
What is hepatitis A? Hepatitis A is a contagious liver disease. What is the infectious agent that causes hepatitis A o F (85 o C) for one minute. Adequate chlorination of water also kills the hepatitis A virus. Where is hepatitis A found? Hepatitis A infection occurs worldwide. The disease is common in Africa, Asia (except Japan), parts of the Caribbean, Central and South America, Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean Basin, and the Middle East. In the United States, hepatitis A occurs in isolated cases, in outbreaks, and in widespread epidemics. How do people get hepatitis A infection? Hepatitis A virus is usually spread from person to person. People get hepatitis A infection by putting something in the mouth that has been contaminated with the stool of an infected person. For this reason, the virus is more easily spread in places with poor sanitary conditions or in places where people are not careful about washing their hands. Persons with hepatitis A can also spread the virus to household members and to sex partners. In rare cases, people have been infected after getting a transfusion of infected blood. Outbreaks of hepatitis A have also occurred among illegal drug users. The virus is not spread by casual contact, as in the usual work or school setting.

The focus of the hepatitis C Education Support Network is to educate the public, about hepatitis C virus. WELCOME TO THE hepatitis
http://hepcesn.org/
The CDC states: An estimated 4 million Americans have been infected with HCV. This is thought to be a vastly under estimated number and not a true indication of the epidemic facing the nation. Currently, hepatitis C is responsible for an estimated 8,000-10,000 deaths annually from chronic liver disease. Without effective intervention, that number is expected to triple in the next 10-20 years. Hepatitis C is the leading cause for liver transplants and the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. Comparatively, hepatitis C is five times more prevalent than HIV. With the HIV/HCV co-infection rate estimated at 30%. The purpose of this site and organization is to provide information, support and education to the public, patients, and anyone who wants to learn more about living with the hepatitis C virus. We will always strive to perform our mission with compassion and integrity. We advocate for patients and everyone infected or at risk for hepatitis C infection. We believe no one deserves to be sick and everyone deserves to be treated with respect and understanding without exception. We do not recommend one form of treatment over another. We do not give medical advice. We do not endorse any products, nor will we.

There are no long term complications. Who gets hepatitis A? The highest rates of hepatitis A are among children and young adults, but anyone can get hepatitis A. How common is it in Washington? Where does it come from? The virus is present in the feces of an infected person two weeks before and up to two weeks after symptoms begin. The person is most infectious a week before to a week after symptoms appear. However, an infected person with no symptoms can still infect others. Animals do not transmit hepatitis A. How is a person exposed?

Chronic Hepatitis C: Current Disease Management
On this page:
Introduction
The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is one of the most important causes of chronic liver disease in the United States. It accounts for about 15 percent of acute viral hepatitis, 60 to 70 percent of chronic hepatitis, and up to 50 percent of cirrhosis, end-stage liver disease, and liver cancer. Almost 4 million Americans, or 1.8 percent of the U.S. population, have antibody to HCV (anti-HCV), indicating ongoing or previous infection with the virus. Hepatitis C causes an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 deaths annually in the United States. A distinct and major characteristic of hepatitis C is its tendency to cause chronic liver disease. At least 75 percent of patients with acute hepatitis C ultimately develop chronic infection, and most of these patients have accompanying chronic liver disease. Chronic hepatitis C varies greatly in its course and outcome. At one end of the spectrum are patients who have no signs or symptoms of liver disease and completely normal levels of serum liver enzymes. Liver biopsy usually shows some degree of chronic hepatitis, but the degree of injury is usually mild, and the overall prognosis may be good. At the other end of the spectrum are patients with severe hepatitis C who have symptoms, HCV RNA in serum, and elevated serum liver enzymes, and who ultimately develop cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease. In the middle of the spectrum are many patients who have few or no symptoms, mild to moderate elevations in liver enzymes, and an uncertain prognosis.

Hepatitis A (smitsom leverbetændelse)

    Description
    • Hepatitis A (HAV)
HAV usually isn't serious. It is transmitted through oral-fecal contact (rimming, eating contaminated raw food).
    • Hepatitis B (HBV)
More than 80% of those with HIV are infected with HBV. The reason is that HBV infects in the same way HIV infects through body fluids (semen, blood). HBV is likely to be chronic (not curable).
    • Hepatitis C (HCV)
Hemophiliacs and IV drug users (IDU) are the more likely to have HCV than gay/bisexual men. HCV causes serious liver problems (cirrhosis, liver failure). About half of the HCV cases are chronic (not curable). Being HIV+ can make HCV infection more dangerous than it otherwise might be.

BEAVER, Pennsylvania (AP) Green onions were the likely source of a deadly hepatitis A outbreak at a Mexican restaurant last month, but the origin of the onions and how they were tainted remains unclear, state health officials said Friday. "All the evidence suggests that people had direct contact with the green onions," said Joel Hersh, director of epidemiology for the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The outbreak, which has killed three people and sickened at least 575, is the nation's largest ever from a single source a Chi-Chi's restaurant at the Beaver Valley Mall, about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
