http://www.hopeforkids.com/body_hemangioma.html
Hemangiomas are non-cancerous vascular tumors which usually appear in the first month after birth. Their rapid growth can be very alarming to parents. This growth lasts between three to eight months, rarely longer. They generally stay about the same size and color for six months to a year and a half before gradually fading and becoming smaller. We call this improvement involution. Unfortunately, involution lasts anywhere from four to ten years. While hemangiomas improve dramatically with time, they usually leave some residual reminder of the birthmark - a different skin texture or pigmentation. If significant, surgery may be required. Hemangiomas can cause a number of problems. The most common issue with hemangiomas is they can be very disfiguring, particularly on a visible portion of the body. It is frequently very difficult for families to cope with the stares and comments which can affect the child as well. Occasionally, they ulcerate and cause a wound or sore. These ulcerations can be very uncomfortable. When near the eye, hemangiomas can cause astigmatism or interfere with eyelid opening, which may affect the child's ability to develop vision in that eye. A very small percentage of hemangiomas may cause more problems, such as respiratory obstruction, heart failure, or blood clotting difficulties.

Hemangiomas are benign tumors consisting of masses of twisted, congested blood vessels. They are usually found incidentally on an ultrasound or CT. These tumors cause no symptoms and generally require no treatment from an orthodox medical perspective. What causes it?
These generally develop due to poor liver function and congestion. Treatment
It is important with these conditions to have a strong functioning immune system - this can only come from having a strong functioning liver. Recommended Dr Cabot books: "The Healthy Liver and Bowel Book"
"The Liver Cleansing Diet"

"Raw Juices Can Save Your Life"
General Recommendations:
From a nutritional medicine perspective it is recommended to take excess workload off this organ via sound eating principles and supplementation therefore improving the liver function and helping to ease the congestion.
Dr Cabot's recommended supplement program for Hemangiomas "Livatone Liver Tonic"

CONCEPTO Y DESCRIPCION TRATAMIENTO ...

What are Hemangiomas?
Hemangiomas are simply a collection of extra blood vessels in the skin. The word is derived from " hemangio " meaning blood vessel and " oma " meaning tumor. It is a benign growth. They may have different appearances depending on the depth of the increased numbers of blood vessels.
Fig. A
  • Strawberry Hemangioma is an abnormal collection of blood vessels in the skin characterized by a bright red color and well-defined border.
A Deep or Cavernous Hemangioma is a large, collection of blood vessels beneath the skin surface characterized by a soft, bluish, or skin colored mass.
A Combined Hemangioma is a combination of a deep and superficial (strawberry) hemangioma.
Hemangioma in one-year-old baby
How Common are Hemangiomas? Hemangiomas are one of the most common birthmarks in newborns. Most hemangiomas are not present at birth but develop within the first few weeks to months of life. They are found in up to 10 percent of babies by the age of one.
Why do Hemangiomas Occur? The cause of hemangiomas is unknown. In very rare instances they may run in families, but in general they are not inherited. For a parent with a child with this birthmark, there is no increased risk of having a subsequent child with a hemangioma. Hemangiomas are more common in girl babies than boys. They are also more commonly seen in premature infants.

All congenital vascular birthmarks fall into two main categories: Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations. These birthmarks may occasionally look the same but they are very different from each other and are also treated differently. It is therefore essential that your child's birthmark be correctly diagnosed. The majority of hemangiomas don't make their presence known until the first few weeks or even months after birth; occasionally, they may already be present at birth. Hemangiomas are more common in whites, and girls are three to five times more likely than boys to have a hemangioma. While hemangiomas may run in families, a proven genetic or chromosomal link has yet to be found, and it does appear that hemangiomas in subsequent births are rare. Adults never develop hemangiomas; only infants have them. A vascular lesion appearing in adulthood is therefore not an hemangioma.
Hemangiomas are by far the more common of the two. One in every 10 children will develop one. Hemangiomas come in all shapes and sizes. Eighty-three percent of hemangiomas occur on the head or neck. The depth of the hemangioma is important as it will determine the type of treatment it may require. Collagen is the main protein component of our body's white fibrous tissues which includes skin, tendons, and connective tissue. If a lesion is located within the layer of collagen within the skin, it's called a superficial hemangioma. [

Hemangiomas
Hemangiomas are classified according to their location. They are either deep superficial or compound . They can also grow internally: GI tract, liver, kidneys, adrenals, brain and lungs.
Deep - occur in lower dermis or subcutaneous tissue below the collagen layer. [
Superficial - occur in upper dermis above the collagen layer. [
Compound - combination of both deep and superficial lesions. [ Vascular Malformations
Vascular malformations are classified according to the type of blood vessels involved.
Midline Venular (Capillary) - flat, macular stains such as stork bite, salmon patch, and angel kiss. The very small veins (venules) of this lesion are always situated in the midline. They usually fade within the first year of life. Venular - known as portwine stains, previously referred to as capillary malformations. The venules of this lesion are located in the superficial layer of the dermis. Venous - erroneously referred to as cavernous hemangiomas. Comprised of large dilated veins in the subcutaneous tissue.

Hemangiopericytoma Question: Dr. Richards,
I have a question about my 11 year old female German Shepherd. Katie
recently had a mass removed from her right front leg, near the elbow. It was the size of an egg. It was not visible due to the fact that it was on the inside part of her leg. I felt it when I was checking for ticks. We don't know how long it was there. The biopsy came back as a Hemangiopericytoma. What do you know about this type of tumor?

Most hemangiomas are not usually present at birth or are very faint red marks. Shortly after birth, however, they grow rapidly - often faster than the child's growth. Over time, they become smaller (involute) and lighter in color. The process of involution may take several years.

It is a benign tumor of endothelial cells that form the inner lining of blood vessels. Hemangiomas generally appear during the first weeks of life and grow rapidly for six to 10 months. Then they begin a much slower process of shrinking, or regressing, which may take from one to seven years. Finally, the tumor enters its final, shrunken state, after which it will not regrow. Tumor regression is complete in half of children by age 5 and in 70% of children by age 7. How common are hemangiomas? They are the most common benign tumor in infants. Between 4-10% of infants have at least one hemangioma. They are three to five times more common in females than in males and occur more frequently in Caucasian infants than in Asian -American or African-American infants. The incidence of hemangiomas may be as high as 24% in premature infants with low birth weight (fewer than 1000 grams). What causes hemangiomas?
