Although the Pronex pneumatic traction unit is designed for use with the patient in a supine position - it doesn't take pain lying down. Rather, Pronex is one of the most effective devices available to remedy neck pain, strain, and spasm. Dr. Art Nitz, Professor of Physical Therapy and Director of Graduate Training at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, points out that the orientation of the patient during traction with the Pronex device maintains the normal cervical lordosis, resulting in uniform traction both posteriorly and anteriorly across the vertebral disc. Other devices occlude the anterior disc space in order to create temporary relief posteriorly. Neck pain is significantly alleviated by Pronex. From increased range of motion to permanent improvements in vertebral disc height, the Pronex pneumatic traction unit can be an effective alternative to clinic-based traction therapy". Dr. Unal Tutak, a chronic pain specialist from Birmingham, Alabama, agrees. For many of his patients, he says, the Pronex unit is the key to breaking the "vicious circle of pain" brought on by radiculopathy. "This circle begins when nerve roots are irritated, causing edema and pressure within the intervertebral foramina," according to Dr. Tutak. "This pressure triggers a reflex response in the patient's cervical muscles causing them to contract, as a way to fix the cervical spine in place. Instead of helping, this contraction further narrows the foramina through which the nerve roots must pass. Neck pain is increased as more tension is applied by the muscles to try and fix the neck in place, and still more narrowing of the foramina..."

Mori returns to political headaches
Public approval ratings for PM Mori have dipped below 10 percent TOKYO, Japan Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori's return from the U.S. takes place amid speculation about his replacement and more bad news regarding the economy. Mori, who made a brief stop in Hawaii following a summit in Washington with U.S. President George W. Bush, agreed to presidential elections within his own party that could pave the way for his departure as early as next month. But confusion persists over when he will actually exit the political stage as well as over who will take his place. The new chief of the dominant Liberal Democratic Party would become prime minister since the party dominates the three-way ruling camp. Mori's position was further undermined by the release of February year-on-year trade figures showing the country's trade surplus depressed by more than 25 percent. IN-DEPTH MESSAGE BOARD Japan: Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori Overall exports grew 1.5 percent during the month, while imports rose much faster at 12.2 percent.

Security Headaches? Take ASP.NET 2.0!
Keith Brown This article is based on the March 2004 Community Technology Preview of ASP.NET 2.0. All information contained herein is subject to change. This article discusses:
  • Security enhancements in ASP.NET 2.0 Server-side security controls User and role databases Cookieless forms authentication
This article uses the following technologies:
ASP.NET, Authentication
ew security features are an important improvement in ASP.NET 2.0. These features include membership services that manage a database of user accounts, hashed passwords, a role manager for managing role membership for users, and five new server-side controls that make implementing forms authentication much easier. ASP.NET 2.0 also offers a provider model that gives you complete control over the implementation of the Membership and Role services and cookieless forms authentication. You also get easy Web-based administration for simple local and remote administration of user accounts and roles, as well as enhanced control of other non-security related settings.
Forms Authentication Gets a Boost
Forms authentication is one of the most popular features of ASP.NET 1.0 because it encapsulates best practices that were missing from many ad hoc implementations. For example, how many forms authentication implementations do you know of that protect the integrity of the cookie used to hold the client's credentials? Forms authentication not only writes the user's name into the cookie, it adds a message authentication code (a hash formed from the cookie and a secret value that only the Web server knows). This prevents a malicious client from elevating privileges or viewing another user's data by changing the name in her cookie.

E-mail your letter to the editor ILLUSTRATION FOR TIME BY BRIAN STAUFFER The New Science of Headaches As doctors learn more about our throbbing heads, they are uncovering amazingly effective ways to kill the pain before it starts By Christine Gorman and Alice Park Posted Sunday, September 29, 2002; 10:31 a.m. EST It was not that long ago that migraine sufferers like Schipper had no choice but to retreat to their darkened bedroom and wait, often for days, until the agony passed. Doctors could prescribe heavy-duty painkillers, but regular use often triggered even more painful episodes. Making matters worse, friends and co-workers tended to treat headache sufferers as the punch line of a bad joke, as if they were having headaches on purpose to avoid work or sex or some deeply repressed memory. Allowing migraines to go untreated is not only extremely painful but may make future attacks harder to control

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is nearly 900 pages long Children are getting migraine headaches by reading the latest Harry Potter book, a Washington doctor has said.
Dr Howard Bennett said three children have complained of headaches caused by the physical stress of reading the 870-page Order of the Phoenix. It has nearly three times as many pages as the first Harry Potter book. The George Washington University Medical Centre doctor called them "Hogwarts headaches", after the wizard school that the book's hero attends. In a tongue-in-cheek letter written to the New England Journal of Medicine, Dr Bennett wrote: "The presumed diagnosis for each child was a tension headache brought on by the effort required to plough through an 870-page book. Escalation "The obvious cure for this malady - that is, taking a break from reading - was rejected by two of the patients," he said. He added that in all cases the pain went away one or two days after the patient had finished reading the book.

headaches and Dental Health. headaches from Dental Stress How can your bite causea headache? Tension headaches result from muscle strain, or contraction.
http://www.aacfp.org/headaches.html
Headaches and Dental Health One in eight Americans suffer from recurring headaches that are so severe they cannot carry out normal living! An estimated 80% of all headaches occur from muscle tension. Did you know that many tension headaches are related to your bite? This article explains how headaches can result from dental stress and how your dentist might treat them.
Headaches are our number one pain problem in the United States. Approximately 40% of all "healthy" individuals suffer from chronic headaches. Head pain is not new. Early civilizations relied on magical potions and spells to cure headaches. In severe cases, holes were drilled in the skulls of headache sufferers so that the evil spirits which were believed to be the cause of the pain could escape. Over the years we have learned much about what causes headaches and how to treat them. Today, there is a growing realization that a common cause of tension headaches is a bad bite.
Headaches from Dental Stress
How can your bite cause a headache? Tension headaches result from muscle strain, or contraction. When muscles are held tight for long periods of time they begin to ache. Headaches from dental stress are a type of muscle tension headache. A tension headache may be on one or both sides of your head. Or, it may surround your head as if a steel band were wrapped around it. The pain feels like a dull, non-throbbing ache. Tension headaches are usually relieved by aspirin. Specific signs which indicate that the headache may have a dental origin include:

How Dog Owners Can Avoid Being Bitten by a Lawsuit
If you've got a dog, take some simple steps to prevent injuries and legal headaches. The numbers are up, and it's not good news: Dogs bite 4.7 million people every year. The explanations are nearly as numerous as the pet dogs, now counted at more than 62 million. Some speculate that Americans, frightened of crime, are favoring fiercer breeds. And busy owners too often leave their pets home alone, untrained and unsocialized. Dogs that spend a lot of time by themselves (especially if they're tied up), aren't used to being around strangers and haven't received basic obedience training, are prime candidates to bite.

long, carbon monoxide poisoning, very low / high blood pressure, altitude changes (air travel), bright or
flashing lights, loud or low frequency noises, electromagnetic fields (cell or portable phone), emotional stress or trauma, strong odors (including news print), pet allergies, and others.  Prescribed medications are another common source of headaches, including the very ones used to treat a migraine headache
