The foot consists of 26 bones, 120 ligaments, 33 joints and 20 separate muscles which work together to control the movement of its individual parts. The foot contains almost one quarter of the body's bones. When you combine the structural complexity of the foot and the fact that the average person takes about 5,000 steps a day, it should come as no surprise that many common ailments exist. The following is a list of some of the most common conditions, and below is a brief description of the condition and treatment. Always consult your physician about your particular condition. Arthritis Arthritis is a condition that causes the inflammation and swelling of your cartilage and lining of the joints. Since your foot is composed of 33 joints, arthritis tends to start in your feet first. This condition is common in people over the age of 50, but has started at earlier ages. Treatment for arthritis in your feet varies depending upon the severity of the condition. Some treatment options include medication, physical therapy, special shoes and

CLUB FOOT (CONGENITAL TALIPES EQUINOVARUS) INTRODUCTION Clubfoot is a congenital foot condition, which affects approximately 1 out of every 1000 births in the United Kingdom. However, prevalence of this condition is twice as more in males then females. The deformity can be mild or severe and it can affect one foot or both feet. As many as 50% of cases are bilateral (both feet are affected). Club Foot is sometimes confused with other congenital foot defects, such as Calcaneovalgus and Metatarsus adductus. These deformities are caused by the position of the foot in the womb and are usually corrected with minimal intervention. True clubfoot affects all the joints, tendons and ligaments in the foot and is often referred to as Congenital Talipes EquinoVarus . Another form of clubfoot is Congenital Vertical Talus , this is not as common as true clubfoot, the foot appears more rigid then a true club foot deformity. In most cases, clubfoot is idiopathic, that means that the cause is unknown and there is no genetic tendency. It is however associated with Spina Bifida and Hip Dysplasia. APPEARANCE
  • High arched foot that may have a crease across the sole of the foot.

    Abstract
There are 14 million diabetics in the United States. Approximately 25% will develop foot problems and 6 to 10% will undergo amputation. Diabetics spend more time in the hospital for foot complications than for all other aspects of their disease combined. Evaluation of foot complications requires optimal diagnostic imaging targeted toward the area of abnormality. MRI has been increasingly used in the evaluation of diabetic foot disease due to its superior anatomic resolution of bone and soft tissue pathology.
This exhibit will demonstrate methods to optimize diabetic foot imaging protocols and review imaging findings in various diabetic foot conditions. This will including cellulitis septic arthritis abscess and sinus tract formation, osteomyelitis gangrene , and charcot foot disease with attention to the differential diagnosis of various pathologic findings. Comparison of different imaging approaches will be made, with emphasis on current MRI techniques. Post operative diabetic foot complications along with imaging approaches to follow these patients geared toward their potential problems will be demonstrated.

Types of Foot Conditions- Overlapping Toes Definition
Many disorders can affect the joints in the toes, causing pain and preventing the foot from functioning as it should. People of all ages can experience forefoot problems. Overlapping toes can occur in any of the toes and can cause extreme irritation if not corrected.
    Cause
Wearing footwear with a constricting toe box can lead to overlapping toes. Another common cause is bunions, usually found in adult women. Overlapping of the fifth toe may occur among children and can be easily corrected.
Pain and inflammation are common symptoms of overlapping toes. If this condition is left untreated, it can interfere with the normal function of the foot. Treatment and Prevention
Any problems that cause pain or discomfort in the toes should be given prompt attention. Ignoring the symptoms can aggravate the condition, and lead to a breakdown of tissue or even infection.

    Summary of "fungus" concepts:
Fungi can only live on dead things (That is its ecological niche in our world.)and that fact determines what they can do to people. The surface of your skin is dead as is all nail tissue and hair. The stuff that goes through your intestinal tract is mostly deadthe only exceptions are the normal (or abnormal) bacteria and parasites that may be present. The problem is that once any fungus gets established on that dead tissue that it can actually invade any adjacent tissue that is less than vigorously healthy. The metabolic toxins excreted by the living fungi can kill adjacent tissue and THEN it is dead and the fungi can live on it.
Fungi love dark, moist areas with plenty of dead tissue for it to eat. This is why feet are a favorite place for them to grow. Today's life styles have us wearing shoes, with poor ventilation, and the stored stress-effect causes feet to be more sweaty. Cold feet, which are very commonly associated with sweaty feet, are an indication that less circulation (immunity) is reaching the area. If the dead skin is not removed from between the toes each day (terrycloth buffing) it builds up and that is why most "athlete's foot" begins between the toes.

3 out of 4 Americans experience serious foot problems in their lifetime. The foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments and 19 muscles. 1/4 of all the bones in the human body are down in your feet. When these bones are out of alignment, so is the rest of the body. Only a small percentage of the population is born with foot problems. It's neglect and a lack of awareness of proper care - including ill fitting shoes - that bring on problems. Women have about four times as many foot problems as men. High heels are partly to blame.
