    It is important to look at the causes - viral, parasitic, environmental, hormonal - which can all cause problems. To be successful we must act as a detective by analyzing blood tests that will assist us with the clues. At that point we determine if we are dealing with a viral, toxin, nutritional or hormonal problem or a combination of all. Finding the cause and combining therapies often gets the best results towards the healing journey.

I am still recovering so it's not going as quickly as I’d like it to be but I have a sporadic newsletter that I send out when I hear of new and worthwhile treatments for Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia drugs, Chinese Medicine, diet, exercise, and other. It will also let you know as I add new features to this Websites. (I now live in Incline Village, Nevada - the town where the “new” illness Chronic Fatigue Syndrome was "discovered" in 1984). I intend for this to work a bit like 'Stone Soup' - where we all bring our experiences - rather than rutabagas - to the mix. So please send me a note about what has worked for you to alleviate your suffering - I will share it with the mailing list. Like everyone with CFS/ME I have a story and like most other people I have met with this illness the whole story is pretty long! Here is the short version:

    Introduction
    Chronic fatigue syndrome, often better known as M.E. (myalgic encephalomyelitis) and postviral syndrome, seems to be a mysterious disease which has been running rampant over the past decade. To variable degrees, a growing number of people suffer from this syndrome, for which no clear- cut cause has yet been found. Sufferers appear healthy and frequently have normal blood test results. This regularly leads general practitioners, consultants, occupational physicians, employers and society in general, to deny the existence of this syndrome. Unrequired referrals to psychiatrists and psychologists; the use of hypnotics, tranquillisers and antidepressants; an inability to cope with daily life in general, and work in particular; are only some of the unpleasant consequences of this malady.
    The Clinical Picture
    Diagnosing chronic fatigue (or M.E.). is done based on the patient's complaint pattern and history. In order to diagnose the syndrome, other causes of chronic fatigue, such as anaemia, thyroid dysfunction, certain infections, autoimmune disease, multiple sclerosis, sarcoidosis, etc. need to be excluded. The most commonly found complaints are:
    • severe fatigue (more than 50% energy loss) for a minimum of 6 months, often with slow recovery after exertion; sometimes "good" periods;

Forbes (1919-1990) If there's one thing I'm passionate about, it's helping people find a living that they enjoy - when work is play - when earning money and doing something you love are one and the same That's primarily why I set up sleepydust.net. So many CFS sufferers out there - living on the breadline, with no hope of ever earning their own money or having a career... ...that's just not true. Yes CFS makes you tired. CFS means you only have a fraction of the waking hours that most people enjoy - and even those waking hours are spent feeling exhausted and with brain fog. But we can do something - we just have to 'focus our light' so to speak. Most people have oodles of energy - but they don't focus on anything in particular and so don't get anything much done. No matter how much energy you have - if you focus even a fraction of the energy on working from home - setting up your own project - you will get there. After all...

    IMPORTANT NEW ME/CFS QUESTIONNAIRE An important new ME/CFS symptom questionnaire has been developed by Ricky Buchanan, author of the very well known " Letter To Normals "l which has been published in CFS/ME newsletters and books all over the world. Ricky herself has had severe CFS for over a decade. Why a new questionnaire at all? After years of contact with the CFS/ME community Ricky has noticed a small percentage of people with CFS/ME have very severe symptoms. Much worse than the "usual" case of CFS/ME would expect. It is these people Ricky would like to study - the people who are bedridden for years and years and years, who cannot leave the house, who need wheelchairs to get from one room to another, and so forth. This questionnaire, known as the "CFS/ME Severe Symptoms Questionnaire", aims to find out what symptoms these people commonly have that people with less severe CFS don't have. Things like epilepsy, paralysis, and so on. To find out what is different about people with very severe CFS, Ricky needa to study ALL of the CFS/ME community though.

    Chronic fatigue syndrome more than being tired
    By Eleni Berger CNN (CNN) Imagine getting only three or four hours of sleep a night for eight years. Then having a pain as severe as a toothache throughout the entire body at the same time. Add to that the feeling that memory is fading. That's what life can be like for people who suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), says Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, an internist who specializes in treating this mysterious illness. "This is a serious disease that can destroy people's lives," says Teitelbaum, who directs the Annapolis Research Center for Effective Fibromyalgia and CFS Therapies in Annapolis, Maryland. He became interested in the illness after succumbing to it in medical school in 1975. "There was not even a name for it back then," recalls Teitelbaum, who says he battled the disease for years before being cured.

We have many requests for the physician's side symptoms list, known as "Devin's Diagnostic" This site describes two medical conditions which often occur together: Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain. Chronic Myofascial Pain was previously called Myofascial Pain Syndrome. See the handout " Myofascial Pain — A Neuromuscular Disease ". These conditions are clearly clinical disorders, and as they share symptoms with so many other disorders, are currently among the most misdiagnosed of ailments. We hope that this information will help people get more information about these illnesses so as to better their chances of accurate diagnosis and improved therapy.
