WARNING, WARNING, WARNING; This section is for my Tufts University medical students. If you are a "worrier" type or a very anxious parent, please talk to your clinician about your child's problem or symptoms, rather than reading this differential diagnosis. There is a mother in my practice who after reading about Tics in the Internet became extremely worried and vowed not to visit the Internet again and read about her sons health problem. Sometimes too much information is not good for our emotional health if we happen to be a worrier.

These include optic neuropathy, retinopathy Retinopathy is a general term that refers to some form of non-inflammatory damage to the retina of the eye. Most commonly it is the blood vessels that are the direct medium for the disease. Main causes of retinopathy are :

E DITOR CADASIL (Cerebral Autosomal Dominant Arteriopathy with Subcortical Infarcts and Leucoencephalopathy) is a hereditary form of multi-infarct vascular dementia. Clinical symptoms often present in middle adult life (30-50 years of age) and include recurrent subcortical ischaemic strokes, migraine with or without aura, major psychiatric symptoms, and dementia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) shows high intensity signal lesions, often confluent, and areas of cystic degeneration of the subcortical white matter and basal ganglia. Pathological examination shows multiple, small, deep cerebral infarcts, leucoencephalopathy, and a non-atherosclerotic

Spasticity
Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition Spasticity is a disorder of the body's motor system Muscle is one of the four tissue types. The other three types are: epithelium, connective tissue and nervous tissue. The primary purpose of muscle tissue is to contract. Muscle contraction is used to move parts of the body, as well as to move substances within the body, There are three general types of muscle. The first two are "striated", they contain sarcomeres; the third type is "smooth":
  • cardiac muscle - found within the heart
  • skeletal muscle - attached to the skeleton and used to facilitate movement
  • smooth muscle - found within the intestines and blood vessels.

It may occur in association with spinal cord The spinal cord is a part of the vertebrate nervous system that is enclosed in and protected by the vertebral column. It consists of nerve cells. The cord conveys the 31 spinal nerve pairs of the peripheral nervous system, as well as central nervous system pathways that innervate skeletal muscles.

The aim of the foundation is to support both research in the field of the familialspastic spinal paralysis and persons affected including their relatives.

Every attempt is made to provide information about international organizations for individuals with HSP or PLS. There is a small handful of groups listed below that are specific to HSP, which may be open to those with PLS. There do not appear to be any international organizations specifically dedicated to PLS, however, many international ALS or MDA organizations include PLS and/or HSP in their services. There is an SPF volunteer in western Canada who is organizing a regional group for the Pacific Northwest/Canada. The first Conference was held in February, 2002. Plans are to hold at least one meeting per year. Please contact Jean A helpful link is the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations, comprised of more than 50 national patient support and advocacy groups from over 40 countries worldwide. Of particular note is the support the ALS Society of British Columbia has provided to Frank Reyerse, the creator of the first (lay person's) PLS website . Although Frank's original diagnosis of PLS was changed to ALS, he has continued to champion in the PLS patient community and to maintain the PLS website. Another resource is the
