A man by the name of Tinsley came to town bringing along a few goats and a "sacred" cow. He stayed long enough to marry a local woman, and to help a farmer with the harvest. He sold his goats to a man by the name of R. Goode and then departed the community. He took the cow with him, but alas for the poor wife, left her behind. Today's Fainting goats descended from those few goats. The goats were used primarily for meat, although they were also used to protect sheep. With a Fainting goat in the herd if coyotes or dogs threatened the sheep, the sheep could run away while the Fainting goat fell over, providing the predator with an easy meal while the sheep escaped. These goats were close to extinction by the 1980's, but have now been bred back to where they are no longer endangered. Just before she passed away I was told that I have Hepatitis C from a blood transfusion I was given in 1983. The treatments have been rough at times but the year of treatment is almost over and the Hepatitis is in remission. PLEASE be tested for Hepatitis C if you were given a blood transfusion before 1992. If you have not taken the vaccine for Heaptitis A and B please ask your doctor about it. Liver disease is very frightening.

But a medical officer says the phenomenon may be caused by a neurosis related to local links with witchcraft. One of the girls to be affected by the fainting is Harriet Salewa, an 11-year-old pupil at the Maendeleo Primary School in Iringa. Only girls affected "I've been falling down at school," she says. "I feel dizzy, and lose consciousness." "I'm unable to talk, to walk, to hear, and I feel as if things are crawling all over me, starting from my feet, and disappearing in my head."
