About This Site
This site is about helping people to find the tools they need to succeed and build physical, emotional, mental and spiritual strength in life. Part of developing that strength involves understanding our bodies and special needs we may have. Understanding what a seizure is, how the brain works, how to get the best medical treatment, and how seizures affect daily life are all part of developing strength for living with epilepsy. The information on these pages is here to help people with epilepsy, their families, and their friends gain that understanding. Medical professionals can also use information from these pages to educate patients and to improve the care provided.

Epilepsy: The Information is a website dedicated to telling the truth about epilepsy.
"In developed countries our main goal is to improve quality of life for persons with epilepsy but even there centuries-old superstitions are lurking in the shadows. It is a much more complicated situation in developing countries due to social stigma and discrimination, lack of trained personnel and shortages of anti-epileptic drugs" Ms. Hanneke M. de Boer, International Bureau for Epilepsy) for Matthew NINTENDO TV GAMES 'CAN KILL' WARNING Professor Graham Harding of Birmingham's Aston University is calling on the makers of the games - Megamen X, Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Sunshine and Metroid Crime - to stamp prominent health warnings on all computer game boxes as he has found that these four popular Nintendo games contain flashing and repetitive light patterns that could possibly cause fatal seizures brought on by photo sensitive epilepsy. Youngsters between the ages of seven and 19 are most at risk. Professor Harding also wants safety guidelines introduced identical to those that British Broadcasters follow. He said "The industry should apply the same guidelines because they have been shown to work. Then the risks would disappear". He has also developed a new machine to test problems in video games. Scientists have established a clear link between video games and epilepsy.

Comprehensive Epilepsy Program
The Comprehensive Epilepsy Program is a multidisciplinary program involving experts in the coordinated care of patients with uncontrolled seizures. The Epilepsy Program evaluates patients who might benefit from a better definition of their seizure type or a surgical treatment of their seizures. Epilepsy monitoring and surgery is far from unusual or investigational. Since Victor Horsely's first craniotomy in 1886 for a cerebral tumor producing seizures, over 5,000 of these procedures have been performed. Currently, there are over 100 centers in the U.S. and the world providing long-term monitoring and a surgical treatment with excellent results. Generally 85% of patients have at least a 90% seizure reduction. Many questions are typically raised by the suggestion of epilepsy monitoring and surgery. Following are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.
