Where Does Ebola Hide Between Epidemics? Stefan Lovgren
for National Geographic News
February 19, 2003
When villagers in the remote jungles of the Republic of Congo began falling ill last month, scientists quickly suspected Ebola. The virus had been confirmed in tests on the bodies of animals found dead in surrounding forests, and bush meat is a staple among the local population. Knowing how people may initially have contracted the virus has given medical experts a jumpstart on the epidemic, which has so far killed at least 64 people. But the larger question remains. Where does the deadly Ebola virus hide between outbreaks? "Primates die from Ebola," just like humans, said Dick Thompson, a spokesperson for the World Health Organization, which has sent a team of experts to the region. "The virus must live somewhere else in the environment."

Pulse of the Planet The search for a natural host has eluded scientists ever since the first Ebola epidemics in 1976. The quest is a catch-22. While an outbreak offers the best opportunity to find the natural reservoir, the priority for virus hunters is to contain the epidemic. In the process, the trail often goes cold because the virus kills so swiftly it covers its tracks.

View photo gallery: Go>> A catastrophic die-off of lowland gorillas and chimpanzees at the very heart of their range in central Africa has been reported by scientists. Scientists working with the ECOFAC program (an EC-funded regional forest conservation program for central Africa) in northern Republic of Congo said today that they were witnessing what appears to be a massive decline in ape populations in the Lossi Gorilla Sanctuary (about 100 square miles/250 square kilometers) situated about 10 miles (15 square kilometers) to the southwest of the famous Odzala National Park (5,250 square miles/13,600 square kilometers). The region is thought to contain the majority of central Africa's lowland gorillas because of its isolation, the presence of several protected areas, and large undisturbed areas of habitat types particularly favored by gorillas. Wildlife Conservation Society veterinarian Annelisa Kilbourn, wearing a hazmat suit to guard against possible infection, collects tissue samples from a gorilla that died of Ebola virus in the Congo.

Early Ebola tests on patient in Canada negative
WEB EXCLUSIVE Bill Delaney: Ebola scare in Canada HAMILTON, Ontario (CNN) Health officials in Canada said Wednesday preliminary tests on a woman feared to have the Ebola virus have been negative for the deadly hemorrhagic fever. However, they said viral isolation tests are still being conducted and they have not yet been able to rule out other viruses, such as Lassa or yellow fever, as the cause of her illness. "We're being extremely cautious," said Dr. Mark Loeb of Henderson Hospital, where the woman is being treated. But he emphasized the general public is not at risk. "We've had some results from the laboratory in Winnipeg, showing that the Ebola testing is negative," explained Loeb. "The real implication (is) that this greatly reduces the likelihood that this patient has been infected with the Ebola virus." http://www.d2ol.com/ebola.html
Overview Anthrax Smallpox SARS ... Plague Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Ebola HF) is a severe, often-fatal disease in humans and nonhuman primates (monkeys and chimpanzees) that has appeared sporadically since its initial recognition in 1976.
The disease is caused by infection with Ebola virus, named after a river in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) in Africa, where it was first recognized. The virus is one of two members of a family of RNA viruses called the Filoviridae. Three of the four species of Ebola virus identified so far have caused disease in humans: Ebola-Zaire, Ebola-Sudan, and Ebola-Ivory Coast. The fourth, Ebola-Reston, has caused disease in nonhuman primates, but not in humans.
Scientists and researchers are faced with the challenges of developing additional diagnostic tools to assist in early diagnosis of the disease and ecological investigations of Ebola virus and the disease it causes.

WASHINGTON (CNN) A civilian Army researcher at Fort Detrick, Maryland, is in isolation after possibly being exposed to the Ebola virus, Army officials said Thursday. The researcher accidentally pricked herself with a needle that contained a weakened form of the Ebola virus last week while she was injecting mice with the virus as part of a research effort. The woman has shown no signs of the fatal illness, but will remain at Fort Detrick for up to 30 days of isolation. Local government officials have been notified, but no one else is believed to have been exposed.

This is the first indepth exploration into the origins of HIV and ebola. Emerging Viruses - AIDS ebola. by Dr. Leonard Horowitz.
http://www.all-natural.com/horo-3.html
by Dr. Leonard Horowitz The iatrogenic and genocidal theories of AIDS are meticulously explored within the social and political context of this stormy period of American military science. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) activities and foreign policy initiatives in Central Africa in response to the alleged threats posed by communism, black nationalism, and Third World populations are examined. The important roles played by political leaders including National Security Advisor Dr. Henry Kissinger, Department of Health, Education and Welfare secretaries Frank Carlucci, Jr. and Joseph Califano, presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, and economic notables Nelson and Laurence Rockerfeller are considered. The text hauntingly dissects the potential motives and administrative mechanisms underlying the prevalent belief that HIV and Ebola may have been deliberately deployed, and that the AIDS epidemic may be accomplishing what was desired.
