(The previous digital SLR cameras released by Canon have been aimed at the professionals or high-end amateurs.) I own a Canon EOS Rebel G, which was my pride and joy until I went to graduate school and couldn't afford the film processing required to improve my photography. Now, digital is so much more convenient that I can't go back, but my point-and-shoot digital camera doesn't really meet my needs. The camera, listed at $899, is significantly cheaper than the professional bodies. It's still quite a bit more than I can drop on a whim, but I just got some late graduation money, so I'm going to start saving my pennies. In most it's an annoyance: the mouth and throat filling with water. In some it's a major embarrassment and, potentially, a hazard: aspiration of saliva, swallowing saliva into the lungs carries the risk of pneumonia. Saliva is a clear, watery fluid. It contains enzymes (proteins) that initiate digestionbreaking down complex sugars and starches. Saliva coats the ingested food making it slippery, helping propel it past your throat, down your esophagus (the gullet), and into your stomach. If you've ever tried to swallow food when your mouth's dry you'll readily appreciate the role of saliva. Saliva's removed by swallowingpreventing it from accumulating in the mouth, the palate, the throatand overflowing into the lungs. Swallowing is an active process and requires coordination of the tongue and the muscles of the palate and throat. Gravity aids swallowing. During the day, when you're head's upright, while you're seated (or standing) saliva, propelled by the tongue and the muscles of the palate and throat moves down the esophagus into the stomach. The process is aided by gravity. In Parkinson disease the muscles of the palate, the throatand the esophagus are affected to varying degrees. The muscles become rigid and lose, in part, their ability to encircle, massage, and propel food down the esophagus and into the stomach. This usually (but not always) occurs late in the disease. Any process that impairs your ability to swallow foodimpairs your ability to swallow saliva. Saliva is mainly produced by the parotid glands, globular structures located in the floor of the mouth at the angle of the jawin front of the ears.

It interferes with communication devices, causes local oral-dental problems, and is a barrier to interpersonal relationship building. It is not uncommon for peers to avoid patients who drool. Many children who drool do not learn full speech because nobody will hold a conversation with them. The drugs for drooling have many systemic side effects. The combination of those effects and interactions with other required medications often makes drug treatment undesirable. We have initiated a program of transtympanic neurectomy and chorda tympanotomy. Performed as outpatient surgery, a very substantial reduction of drooling to near zero is reliably attained. The effects are nearly immediate in children. In adults, due to pooling within the glands, the full effect takes two to three months to level out as the longstanding glandular tissue hypertrophy (bloating) resolves. This surgery is microscopic in nature and quite unique to our program. The nerves to the glands in the mouth travel through the middle ear. The surgery of cochlear implants has generated new approaches of which we can take advantage. Audiology evaluation is no longer required as a prelude although additional studies might be required as is determined by the specifics of the individual. Are there ear tubes? Chronic infections?

His dander has been so riled that he has posted an article on the subject to try to justify the daily pitches that he makes for money that will be used almost entirely for his own personal benefit.
