Drooling Alternative names Return to top Salivation Definition Return to top Saliva flowing outside the mouth. Considerations Return to top Drooling is generally caused by excess production of saliva, inability to retain saliva within the mouth, or problems with swallowing. Some people with drooling problems are at increased risk of inhaling saliva, food, or fluids into the lungs. However, this is unlikely to cause harm, unless the body's normal reflex mechanisms (such as gagging and coughing ) are also impaired. Common Causes Return to top Isolated drooling in infants and toddlers is normal and is unlikely to be a sign of either disease or complications. It may be associated with teething. Drooling in infants and young children may be exacerbated by upper respiratory infections and nasal allergies. Drooling associated with fever or trouble swallowing may be a sign of a more serious disease including:
  • Retropharyngeal abscess Peritonsillar abscess Tonsilitis Mononucleosis Strep throat
A sudden onset of drooling may indicate poisoning (especially by pesticides) or reaction to snake or insect venom. Some medications can cause drooling as well. Some neurological problems also cause drooling.

4. Excess Salivation! Control, Stop Excessive Drooling With SAL-TROPINE
Excessive drooling, salivation effective conservative treatment to stop. SALTROPINE (atropine sulfate tablets) - the dry alternative. SAL-TROPINE is available by prescription through pharmacies
http://www.stopdrooling.com/
Control Drooling with SAL-TROPINE TM Tablets
Low dose atropine reduces salivation.
Prevent hygiene problems and remove social barriers for those concerned about drooling and/or excess saliva. Each dose of SAL-TROPINE (atropine sulfate, USP tablets) reduces salivation for 4 to 6 hours. Why should you consider SAL-TROPINE as a treatment for drooling? Researchers concluded that atropine is "unequivocally beneficial". Treatment reduced saliva secretion/excess salivation and accumulation by more than 50%. Side effects were "negligible" because therapy was started with low doses and increased as necessary. (1) The goal for taking SAL-TROPINE is not to eliminate excess salivation, but to reduce it so that patients can swallow residual saliva with ease. SAL-TROPINE is specifically indicated to reduce salivation and/or excessive drooling. SAL-TROPINE is labeled for dosing in adults, children, and infants (weighing from 7 pounds). Each dose provides 4 to 6 hours of relief. Doses should be adjusted according to weight and need. Dosing guidelines are provided in the prescribing information and may be exceeded in certain cases, as with large patients or heavy salivators. SAL-TROPINE is available by prescription through pharmacies nationwide.

7. Jan Smithers
You'll wish to God you'd never seen it. Dedicated to the actress who portrayed Bailey Quarters on WKRP.
http://www.clothmonkey.com/smithers.htm
Ok, I know I promised I'd never do a drooling fan page. But I got to thinking about the ultimate Cloth Monkey Quirky Babe , the one celebrity woman who most exemplifies womanly perfection for me, the one fantasy woman who can after 20 years still move me . . . Yep, it's Jan Smithers, who played the touchingly shy and neurotic Bailey Quarters on the wonderful sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati . In addition to being an intelligent cut above the competition, it also featured in its outstanding cast Ms. Smithers and the truly scary Loni Anderson. Why Loni captured the public attention instead of Jan is one of those mysteries, like Bill Clinton's second term, that sometimes make me think I'm the only sane person on the planet. I don't know very much about Jan's private life. She was born in North Hollywood on July 3, 1949, and was married to James Brolin for some years. (He's now married to, of all people, Barbra Streisand, and I've been seeing him a lot more on TV lately.) Her first claim to fame was a picture on the cover of a 1966 Newsweek , for a story on rebellious youth. According to those who have seen it, she was sitting on the back of a motorcycle, looking over her shoulder at the camera. (If anyone has a copy of this picture, I'll be glad to post it.) Her connection with motorcycles also led to an accident which left her with the slight winsome scar on her chin.

17. Drooling - Help Control Droolings With SAL-TROPINE
Effective conservative treatment for drooling. SALTROPINE (atropine sulfate tablets) - the dry alternative. drooling also impedes social integration.
http://www.hopepharm.com/saltropine/sialorrhea.html
Drug Therapy with Atropine Sulfate for the Treatment of Sialorrhea
Sialorrhea, or excessive drooling, is a problem for a considerable number of persons with cerebral palsy, intellectual disability, and other neurological conditions.(1) Unable to manage their oral secretions, affected persons are at increased risk of aspiration, skin maceration, and infection. Care may be compromised since the frequent suctioning and cleaning required to maintain proper hygiene can become very burdensome. Drooling also impedes social integration. Isolation is unfortunately common as saliva soils furniture, carpets, toys, and the clothing of peers, siblings, parents, and caregivers.(2) This article reviews the use of atropine sulfate to reduce salivation and help relieve the medical and social problems of drooling. Saliva is produced by both the major and minor salivary glands. There are three pairs of major salivary glands: the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands. These glands produce approximately 1.5 liters of saliva daily: 70% is from the submandibular glands, 25% is from the parotid glands, and 5% is from the sublingual glands. Minor salivary glands located on the palate, buccal mucosa, and tongue also produce modest amounts of saliva.(3) The secretory innervation of the salivary glands is primarily under the control of the parasympathetic nervous system.(4) Stimulation of the parasympathetic system causes profuse secretion of watery saliva.(5) Some persons are unable to swallow their saliva fast enough to prevent drooling. Excessive drooling is a distressing condition that can create significant hygienic and psychosocial problems.

- PREVIEW

By Shane Anderson
- December 1st, 2001
Too Human Just last year - May of 2000 if you will - Nintendo was reported to have nabbed Silicon Knights from Sony, you may remember them for their work on Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain for the PC and Playstation. If you read Nintendo news you have most likely heard of them as being the developer of the soon-to-be-released Eternal Darkness. Also in development by SI is the very game this preview is for, Too human – and it looks like it will kick some major ass. A very small quantity of information has been released on Too Human, however there have been several FMV video sequences and screenshots released, and the look of the game seems like it shall awaken the dark side of yourself. As for my personal look on this little beauty, I think it looks slightly like a cross between Metal Gear Solid, Blade Runner, with samurai-esque action. As I said before this was meant to be a four disc Playstation set, at the moment it is not too clear if this means it will be more than one mini-DVD, but by my calculations each PSX CD is 650 megs, each mini-DVD is 1.5 gigs. So to clarify, here is my hard work, 650x4=2600 Megs, 2600/1500 = 1.73 mini-DVDs, but then you have to think about the compression that the GAMECUBE has. Silicon Knight will definitely find a way to put this game onto one GameCube disc. If this game is like most any other game from the world of Nintendo 2nd party developers it will be well worth its weight in gold, even though gold isn’t quite what it used to be anymore. This game seems like it shouldn’t have a problem releasing on time - whenever SK would like to release that date – seeing how it has been in the works since early 98’. Hopefully Too Human will live up to the expectations of all the gamers with hopeful eyes and drooling mouths, but that will have to be held off until this gem is released for everyone to enjoy.
