Valic IV
Part 1. Background And History.
The Valic system is located roughly 15 hundred light years from the Eastern Fringe. The fourth planet from that systems sun was colonized in its early years as a jumping off point for Rogue Traders on their way to explore beyond known Imperial Space. This jungle planet was first ruled by Alavor Halendon. While he was in power the planet boomed from the trade brought in and out by the Rogue Traders. Slowly the planet grew from a backwater colony to a thriving hive city named Fal-jear on the central continent. The city wasn't as grand as those on Armageddon or Necromunda, but for being this close to the edge of known space it was pretty big. Alavor died of natural causes at the age of 114. He was survived by two sons. His youngest son Tolfcam Halendon took over as Planetary Governor, and assigned his own seal as the new planetary emblem . Meanwhile, Alavor's oldest son was recruited into the Imperial Guard. Alavor II and Tolfcam where loyal patriots to the Empire. Under Tolfcam, Valic IV was further colonized and other towns started popping up all over the planet. Of course nothing as grand as Fal-jear, mostly farmsteads and small towns or hamlets. This development lead to more settlers looking for land away from city's and civilization. This rural expansion helped the Rogue Traders and the spaceport business to boom. After Tolfcam's death his son, Lerion took over as Governor. He was known around the capital as being very permiscuse, and a drunkard. It was rumored that many a bastard child was born that could draw blood lineage to the Halendon family. One of the many women he planted his seed in, left with a Rogue Trader into the Eastern Fringe. Even though Lerion had many sorted affairs and there was much controversy and gossip about house Halendon, he did introduce livestock into Valic IV as an alternate source of trade for the planet as Rogue Traders were visiting less and less.

Graduate students come to the Speech and Hearing Sciences Program from a variety of undergraduate programs and with a variety of backgrounds. Most students can be contacted by e-mail at the addresses indicated. Click on an (underlined) student's name to visit his/her home page. During each summer term, students in the Program are encouraged to undertake research projects under the supervision of Program faculty. Written and oral reports on these reports are presented at the end of the summer. Some students have submitted abstracts of the reports of the projects conducted during their summers in the Program that can be viewed. A number of students have published reports or presented talks on research in which in which they were engaged before entering the program. These are listed as "Other Publications" to distinguish them from reports on research undertaken as part of the Program, which are listed under "Recent Talks and Publications".

AMC's Dimitri Returns (SOD 3/14/2000) "It's official! After months of speculation and ceaseless fan campaigns, Michael Nader is indeed heading back to the role of All My Children's Dimitri Marick. He will return by the end of May sweeps 'for a good, long time,' says an insider. The actor, introduced as the enigmatic count who rescued Natalie from the well in 1991, exited last summer. When rumors persisted that the door was open for him to return, a show spokesperson responded, 'We have no plans to bring Michael Nader back at this time.' That was all the encouragement needed by Nader loyalists, who bombarded ABC with letters, e-mail and petitions demanding Nader's return. Nader fans got a boost when Dimitri, who 'died' in August, was revealed to be alive in September. In a 10/5/99 interview with Digest, Nader explained, 'I had died. But they thought it was better for all concerned that I come back and do a couple of days so that Dimitri does leave alive and well.' The actor then returned to pre-tape the scenes that aired in September. At press time, Nader was on a ski trip and couldn't be reached for comment. But his representative said, 'Michael didn't expect to be going back to the soap opera, but there was so much fan support that when ABC called us to see about him coming back, he was very open to it.'

More MS news articles for Mar 2002 DDB-202: A New Therapeutic Approach in the Treatment of Multiple Sclerosis using Myelin Basic Protein Peptide Analogues http://www.bioportfolio.com/news/dyodelta_1.htm London, 18 March 2002 DyoDelta Biosciences Ltd announced today that it entered into a collaboration for the exclusive license of a novel proprietary pharmaceutical compound programme developed by Professor John Matsoukas, Head of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Patras in Greece. The lead compound DDB-202, is at the forefront of modern approaches towards the therapeutic management of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) that involve the design and use of peptide analogues of disease-associated myelin epitopes to induce peripheral T cell tolerance. MBP (Myelin Basic Protein) is one of the candidate autoantigens in MS and DDB-202 is designed as an analogue of MBP’s most immunodominant region in human MS, therefore conferring an expected immunomodulatory activity and is hoped to be used to prevent and treat this debilitating disease. The use of peptides as therapeutic entities has been attempted unsuccessfully so far due to their sensitivity to proteolytic enzymes. DDB-202 is a stable MBP epitope peptide molecule with the same biological activity as other unstable molecules. In addition to efficacy shown in experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) models of multiple sclerosis, there is evidence that DDB-202 induces the production of IL-10 by T-cells from MS patients.

Bilateral neonatal Sturge-Weber-Dimitri disease: CT and MR findings
JW Yeakley, M Woodside and MJ Fenstermacher
Department of Radiology, University of Texas Medical School, Houston 77030. The CT and MR features of cortical calcification and meningeal angiomatosis are typical of Sturge-Weber-Dimitri disease but are unusual in children less than 1 year of age. This case describes a child presenting with both of these features bilaterally in the neonatal period and represents an unusual presentation of this disorder.
