63. Depression And Anxiety Differences And Similarities
Distinguishes between depression and anxiety. Also discusses types of depression and anxiety disorders and complications such as sleep disorders and substance abuse.
http://www.depression-and-anxiety.com
Community Latest News Depression and anxiety disorders are not the same, although at first glance they seem very similar. Depression generates emotions such as hopelessness, despair and anger. Energy levels are usually very low, and depressed people often feel overwhelmed by the day-to-day tasks and personal relationships so essential to life.
A person with anxiety disorder, however, experiences fear, panic or anxiety in situations where most people would not feel anxious or threatened. The sufferer may experience sudden panic or anxiety attacks without any recognized trigger, and often lives with a constant nagging worry or anxiousness. Without treatment, such disorders can restrict a person’s ability to work, maintain relationships, or even leave the house.
Both anxiety and depression are frequently treated in much the same manner, which may explain why the two disorders are so often confused. Antidepressant medication is often used for anxiety, while behavioral therapy frequently helps people overcome both conditions.
Sudden Panic
Not everyone suffering from an anxiety disorder experiences attacks per se. An anxiety attack is the sudden onset of panic or overwhelming worry. The heart may begin to pound, and the victim of the attack may feel dizzy, nauseous or faint. It is not unusual for people to feel as if they are about to die during an attack. Generally lasting about ten minutes, full recovery may take hours. An anxiety attack leaves a person feeling drained and exhausted.

65. Error Due To Perspective - Self-Injury
A personal site discussing depression, selfinjury, and aspects of being out as a cutter. Includes information for friends/family of self-injurers.
http://ms.parallax.tripod.com/si.html
var cm_role = "live" var cm_host = "tripod.lycos.com" var cm_taxid = "/memberembedded"
SI is an issue that is very close to my heart. I have evolved into this condition of being "out" about cutting - although I have not self-injured in a very long time, I have decided not to waste any more time or energy hiding anymore. As self-injury is still taboo, very few pages address the public experience of being a cutter. From that, what follows are just my explanations for those who aren't, some comfort for those who are, and some suggestions of my own on how to cope, both as a cutter and a friend of, or as a family member to a cutter. Lately, I've seen alot of really cheesey pages on self-injury that don't offer the reader much else besides uninvolved speculation, regurgitated information (unhindered by credit to where it came from), and stereotypes of cutters. Other pages set out to make cutters look like world vision commercials - stranded helpless self-victims who need a pat on the back and your help. Unhappy teenagers buying into a new trend, the neo-braincandy of X Generational depression. Marilyn Manson fandom taken the same way as wearing tartan for the Bay City Rollers. I decided to make a page so that if somebody tries to find it, another viewpoint on self-injury can be found.
Firstly, For the Non-Cutters

Lately Lindsay hasn't felt like herself. Her friends have noticed it, too. Kia was surprised when Lindsay turned down her invitation to go shopping last Saturday (she always loves to shop). There was really no reason not to go, but Lindsay just didn't feel like it. Instead, she spent most of Saturday sleeping. But staying in more than usual isn't the only change in Lindsay. She's always been a really good student, but over the past couple of months her grades have fallen pretty dramatically, and she has trouble concentrating. She's even failed a couple of tests, and she hasn't yet turned in a paper that was due last week. When she gets home from practice, she's not hungry for dinner. Though she usually manages to eat a little something with her family, she just doesn't have much of an appetite - and nothing seems to taste as good as it used to. After dinner, Lindsay goes to her room, does a bit of homework, and goes to bed. She's not even in the mood to talk on the phone with her friends. When her mother asks her what's wrong, Lindsay feels like crying but doesn't know why. Everything seems wrong, yet nothing particularly bad has happened. Lindsay just feels sad all the time and can't shake it. Lindsay may not realize it yet, but she is depressed.

Why do women get postpartum depression?
Having a baby can be one of the biggest and happiest events in a woman's life. While life with a new baby can be thrilling and rewarding, it can also be hard and stressful at times. Many physical and emotional changes can happen to a woman when she is pregnant and after she gives birth. These changes can leave new mothers feeling sad, anxious, afraid, or confused. For many women, these feelings (called the baby blues ) go away quickly. But when these feelings do not go away or get worse, a woman may have postpartum depression. This is a serious condition that requires quick treatment from a health care provider.
