Craniofacial Anomalies

The Craniofacial Team at MCG
Craniofacial anomalies are rare, with bony malformations occurring in only 1 in 2000 live births. If your child has an anomaly, however, its occurrence becomes 100% for your family. Children with irregularly shaped skulls, a congenitally missing ear or eye, cleft lip and palate, or unusual features will require the care of several physicians and clinicians. This web site is provided to give you information on some of the more common of these problems. At the Medical College of Georgia Craniofacial Center, we have a comprehensive Craniofacial Team which meets monthly. It is composed of specialists from several different disciplines: Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Orthodontics, Genetics, Pediatrics, Speech Pathology, Child Psychiatry, Pediatric Otolaryngology (ENT), Physical Anthropology and Pediatric Ophthalmology. Team members come together to examine patients and make recommendations for children seen that month. Parents and local health care providers are sent a letter listing specific recommendations and appointment information for each child. In this way, we hope to consolidate services as well as provide optimum patient care.
