She has been hospitalized, and biopsies have shown a change in the musculature- particularly of the thenar area (the muscle between the thumb and forefinger). A diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gerhig's Disease, has been made. Patient gives a history of being very unhappy and isolated.
