Contraception and Abortion in the Ancient Classical World
In today's society we hear much about the prevention of unwanted teen pregnancies, protection oneself against sexually transmitted diseases, and the education of youths concerning birth control and abstinence. Condoms and birth control pills have been proven highly effective and easily accessible, but there were no such things in the ancient world. How then did the ancient Romans cope with similar issues? What sexual concerns faced the Roman world and how did the Romans effectively control their number of offspring? Despite the concerns arising from a declining population, ancient civilizations desired effective means to limit conception and birth. What do we know about how they achieved such desired results, and what effect did their methods have on the female (or possibly male) body? Throughout these several web pages, I hope to address the methods of preventive medicine with an emphasis on contraception and abortion in the ancient world.

Who We Are
A New Vision For the last few years a new vision of woman has been unfolding - the evolving dream of Dr. Dominic Pedulla, the founding physician of The Edith Stein Foundation (ESF). Asked in 1994 to give a talk on heart disease for women, his preparatory research unexpectedly led to a foundational insight about women's health. Inspired by the deep psychological intuitions of the great feminist transcultural heroine and Saint, Edith Stein, Dr. Pedulla for the first time began to suspect contraception as the most important and overlooked factor in a host of medical and social conditions afflicting the modern woman.
Contraception and The Heart For several years Dr. Pedulla observed that many young women often suffered from serious cardiac symptoms despite otherwise reassuring test results. These women were often profoundly distressed and suffered a great deal of anxiety. It was not until he began routinely asking about birth control practices that a causal connection began to be considered. Dr. Pedulla knows now from his own practice experience that all contraceptives - whether condoms, IUD's, pills, injections, or tubal ligation surgeries - are capable of causing this 'contraception syndrome.'

We have seen why the different methods of birth control do work, but there are still some myths around about other methods that 'work'. Before we look at these mythical methods, let's see how pregnancy does happen. The Myths won't be around in your mind very long after viewing this page.
What is ovulation?
How long before the sperm meets the egg? How Does Pregnancy Happen? Mythical Methods of Birth Control ... A complete annimated fertilization graphic
Ovulation, which only takes about two minutes to complete, usually occurs 14 days after the onset of the period in a 28 day cycle. Ovulation always occurs 14 days BEFORE the onset of your period. The egg is capable of being fertilized for 24 hours. If fertilization doesn't occur, the egg dies. A small amount of bleeding can occur with the rupture of the follicle. Women ovulate approximately 400 times from puberty to menopause. All the eggs not ovulated by menopause have died. Ovaries also do not necessarily take turns in releasing eggs. If one ovary is surgically removed, the remaining ovary will produce an egg a month. Back to the Top
The testes is where sperm are formed. The new sperm travel through the epididymis, behind each testis, where they mature. The mature sperm travel through a tube called the vas deferens through the seminal vesicle, a sac near the bladder. In the seminal vesicle, semen is added. The semen-sperm mixture (ejaculate) passes through the prostate and joins the urethra. The ejaculate travels through the urethra (the tube that carries urine from the bladder to the end of the penis), and is discharged.

En raison du nombre d'habitants en Belgique il devrait y avoir eu 36.666 interruptions. En France il s'agit d'1 chiffre qui reprend les officiels et les non officiels; en Belgique il ne s'agit que des officiels. Ceci explique probablement cela !
