Contraception and Sex Information You Can Actually Use by Kim Allen
Do you get the feeling that all the talk about contraception and sex is "scripted"? I certainly do. There are those silly little pamphlets with pastel flowers in the margins that tell you about "getting intimate," "being safe," and practicing good "personal hygiene." They all have the same diagrams, as if the pamphlet designers just traded them around. Although these pamphlets were created with good intentions and are much better than having no sex information at all (as some short-sighted people would prefer), they are not enough. They present sex as a neat little package, tied up with a pretty bow, when the reality of sex and contraception is much more complex. You look at the pamphlet photo of a shirtless het couple in a close embrace (tastefully covering the woman's breasts), which is supposed to symbolize "intimacy," and you wonder what that has to do with the groping that goes on in the back of movie theaters. You see the diagram showing how to insert a cervical cap, and you can't even imagine having that kind of time during the rushed foreplay you've experienced. There seem to be so many more questions than answers. Yes, the IUD may be a very effective form of protection, but will you

Some facts about contraception There are a lot of myths around about contraception. These are the facts: A woman can still get pregnant:
  • if it is the first time she has sex
  • if she does not have an orgasm
  • if a man pulls out of her vagina before he comes
  • if she has sex when she has a period
  • if she is not fully breastfeeding
  • if she douches (squirts water into the vagina). This can be harmful to women
  • whatever position the couple has sex in

The Politics of Contraceptive Research by Judith Richter with Sarah Sexton NEW!
According to the authors "From what is known about immune responses in general, however, immuno-contraceptives are likely to be unreliable as far as an individual is concerned and to entail an unprecedented potential for abuse; severe health risks cannot be discounted. Anti-fertility “vaccines” are thus a clear example of the impact “population control” has had on contraceptive research."
The Problematics of Postmodern Culture within Disciplinary Liberalism: The Norplant Case by Philip W. Jenks NEW!
According to the author "In the following work, I examine the specific mechanisms by which the categories of public and private are constituted within the frameworks of postmodern fragmentation of human identity and the world political economy of disciplinary liberalism. By examining the case of Norplant, I hope to illuminate not only the value and limits of previous theorization of these issues, but also to develop an understanding of the possibility for democratic political action(s)."
Contesting Claims on the Safety and Acceptability of Anti-Fertility Vaccines by Anita Hardon
This paper describes the controversy surrounding anti-fertility vaccines, focusing on the anti-hCG vaccine. It deals first with the rationale that researchers give for the development of anti-fertility vaccines, and the specific requirements that they set for the new contraceptive method.

People should become parents by choice, and the decision must be a joint agreement. Planned parenthood is clearly better for all concerned - you, your partner, your children - than unplanned parenthood. Which contraception is for me? There are a number of different methods of contraception, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages. All forms of contraception work by preventing the fertilisation of a woman's egg by a man's sperm. This can be achieved in various ways. One approach is the barrier method, which physically prevents sperm from swimming into the uterus and fertilising the woman's egg. Another approach is the hormonal method, which alters a woman's hormonal cycle to prevent fertilisation. Other types of contraception include the following. The intrauterine device (IUCD), generally used by 'older women' (older women in the reproductive sense are quite young in the general sense). The IUCD is not recommended for young women who have not had children.

Raises money for lowincome women of all ages, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds who are unable to pay for either emergency contraception or a safe and legal abortion. Supports clinics all over the United States.
http://www.wrrap.org/
WRRAP raises money for low income women of all ages, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds who are unable to pay for either emergency contraception or a safe and legal abortion. Our services are provided free of charge to clinics all over this nation. All clinics are State-of-the-Art and most are members of the National Abortion Federation (NAF) or the National Coalition of Abortion Providers (NCAP). Both organizations have high standards for affiliation. The money is never asked to be repaid, nor do we judge the woman or her situation... We just help her.
Only 17 states provide financial assistance to poor women seeking abortions; 14 of them do so under court order. Over 87% of the US counties do not have services even though 34% of all women ages 15-44 live in those counties. Over 31% of US metropolitan areas have no providers. 8 of 10 residency programs don't require doctors to learn abortion procedures. What's more, 50% of chief residents have no clinical experience or training for a life-saving abortion. A study conducted with 244 family practice residency programs found most graduates receive little or no clinical training in reproductive health care, including diaphragm fitting, or IUD insertion and removal. Over 50% of unwanted pregnancies are the result of failed birth control. Between 1994 and 2000 the overall abortion rate dropped by 11%. However, the rate for poor women increased by 7%.
