WAS YOUR CHILD BORN WITH CLUBFOOT (TALIPES)?
IF SO, THE CLIPS WEBSITE IS FOR YOU!
My name is Patti and my son Tyler was born (6/24/96) with severe bilateral clubfeet (talipes equinovarus). He was serial casted from 4 days old, followed by two corrective surgeries at 5 months of age. He is now a healthy happy 7 year old with two straight and functional feet which enable him to run, climb, participate in sports, and do all the things that boys do!
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO KNOW: You are not alone!
Children with clubfoot do exceptionally well with treatment and lead normal lives. There is a wealth of information from reliable medical sources to assist you in learning about clubfoot and making informed decisions about your child. There are other parents who would like to hear your child’s story and share with you mutual support.
I have created this site to share my experience, resources and support with other parents of children with clubfeet. Go to the "Welcome" page to learn what's available here and tips on navigating the CLIPS site!

Clubfoot (~ talipes equinovarus)
Information for health professionals on clubfoot
What is clubfoot (talipes):
Clubfoot is a deformity of the whole foot that is present at birth. There are several types of clubfoot that are jointly known as 'talipes', as the deformity is mostly in the talus (a bone in the ankle). The most common of the talipes is what is known as "talipes equino varus" - it is so common that the word clubfoot is commonly used to refer to this. In talipes equino varus, the child is born with the foot pointing down and twisted inwards at the ankle. The foot tends to be smaller than normal. Some children with clubfoot have stiffer joints in the foot and the calf muscles are usually smaller.
Clubfoot occurs in about 1 in 1000 births. Both males and females are equally affected. In half of the cases, both feet are usually affected.

Idiopathic Clubfoot Treatment by Manipulation and Casting: Age-Related Success in Correction of the Deformity

Ignacio V Ponseti, MD Iowa City IA INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic clubfoot is one of the most common foot deformities in children. Manipulation and casting as described by Ponseti has demonstrated excellent results, but it is unclear whether success is related to the age of the patient. This study evaluated success in relation to the age at treatment. METHODS: We reviewed 90 patients (140 clubfeet) treated since 1991. Sixty-six patients were males (73%). Age at presentation ranged from newborn to 22 months (0 - 3 months: 52 patients; 3 - 6 months: 25 patients; > 6 months: 13 patients). Sixty-eight patients (69%) had previous plaster cast or physical therapy elsewhere; 9 patients had percutaneous Achilles tenotomy. RESULTS: Clubfoot correction using Ponseti's technique was initially successful in all but 1 patient (age=22 months). Eighty-five percent of patients required 5 casts for correction. Percutaneous Achilles tenotomy was performed in 84% of patients resulting in a mean dorsiflexion of 20 degrees. There were 14 recurrences. The rate of recurrence was 7% (5/68) in compliant patients compared to 78% (7/9) in patients who were not compliant with foot-abduction bracing. Recurrence was not related to age at presentation or the number of casts required for correction. Four patients required surgery after treatment here (1 posterior release and 3 TAL with anterior tibialis transfer). Forty patients had been previously indicated for surgery by the initial treating physician, but only 1 went on to surgery after treatment here. CONCLUSION: The Ponseti method is effective in correcting idiopathic clubfoot in children up to 1-year of age even after previous unsuccessful treatment.

Welcome to my home page. Its just a bit of fun mostly, but it also has a serious side to it. I love my children, they are the most important thing in my life and like everyone I like to advertise that fact. My short Biography is about my life living with Club Foot, also known as Talipes. 1 in 1000 children are bourn in the UK every year with this condition and it can cause problems for the sufferer. That doesn't mean that the individual can't have a normal life though as medical procedures have changed over the years and the suffering is reduced to a minimum. My story is about personal experiences with the condition, and the problems it has caused, and how my family dealt with it. If you have club foot or a child with club foot, I have added a link at the end of the page to give you the opportunity to contact others for help and advice on the subject. On the family page you will find information about all six of my children their likes, dislikes, and a bit about what they do and their personalities. I have included some information about the family name, so if your name is Walder and you want to know some history into the name go to the family page and read on. If on the other hand you have some information on the same subject I would be interested to here from you In return. Contact me and let me know what you think and if you have some information that may be of interest to me about my name or any of the subject matters covered on this web site. Click on the my music page to find out about my music, when I say my music its because that is what it is. I have been writing songs and music since I got my first guitar when I was seven years old. This page gives you the opportunity to find out about it and what it is I do, it also gives some links to my home page on mp3.com, which is where you can by my album, The eye of the Beholder. There are many more albums to follow but it takes a long time to upload, then organize the site.

We are Iain, Sarah and Scott Parker, and we live in Bournemouth in Dorset.
About this site
There are two purposes for this site. The first is to allow friends and family who are scattered around the country and world to see how our family is getting on, and particularly so that "The Grannies" can see how young Scott is growing up. The second is to share our experience dealing with Scott's feet, as he was born with a foot deformity - Bilateral Talipes Equinovarus , otherwise known as Club Foot. Scott has undergone surgery at 10 months old, and further surgery in June/July 2003, at the age of 2 1/2 years old. He is currently in plaster casts, and we'll see the result in September when the casts are removed. We've come a long way, and hopefully reading about our experience, and seeing photos of Scott throughout this period, will be useful to other families going though a similar experience. If you would like to read about our experience so far with Scott's Talipes, then
