more common than you might think
Deaf people with cerebral palsy have been a part of my life ever since elementary school, when I neither understood cerebral palsy nor knew the name. When I was in the fourth grade, there was a deaf girl named Lisa. Lisa had difficulty walking but I thought she was the same as me because her cerebral palsy was not that severe. I still remember urging her to play hopscotch with me, and Lisa saying "I can't do it!" Lisa would sometimes cry in frustration when we tried to play together, and I would sometimes lose my patience with her.

UK Cerebral Palsy Information Service.
The Cerebral Palsy Information Service is an independent network of medical negligence solicitors which is currently reviewing claims and arranging legal representation for people throughout the United Kingdom. We are able to recommend your compensation claim to an experienced solicitor who is a birth injury specialist and a member of The Law Society panel of medical negligence experts. Our service is completely free and neither us nor your solicitor will charge you a penny. Compensation is paid in full with no deductions, you will not have to pay for any insurance or finance the claim in any respect. Legal Aid is available for birth injury compensation claims and only the child's income if any is taken into account. Most children who have suffered from a birth injury will qualify for Legal Aid even thought the parents may have substantial income and assets. Birth Injury claims are usually fully funded by The Legal Aid Board with no financial contribution from the parents. Cerebral palsy is a catastrophic injury, altering the lives of both victims and their families forever. Most families simply don't have the resources to cover all of the expenses and provide for the child victim over his or her lifetime. That's where we come in to help your child receive the compensation they deserve. If your child's condition resulted from medical negligence, we can help you assert your rights and get the compensation you need.

When parents hear the words “cerebral palsy,” it often conjures up an image of a twisted, wheel chair-bound child. Cerebral palsy can have a broad range of severity. Sometimes it is so mild that it doesn’t limit activity at all. Sometimes it is quite severe. By definition, though, the brain damage that causes CP does not continue to get worse over time. What is it?

120. Maternal Infection And Cerebral Palsy
Describes the increased risk of cerebral palsy created by maternal infection.

Maternal Infection and Cerebral Palsy
CHICAGO (Reuter) - The risk of developing cerebral palsy rose nine-fold in babies of normal birth weight who were exposed to infection in their mothers' wombs, a study said Tuesday. Judith Grether of the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program and Karin Nelson of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke studied 424 babies born in Northern California from 1983 to 1985, 46 of whom suffered from disabling spastic cerebral palsy. ``Maternal fever exceeding 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit) in labor was associated with a 9.3-fold increase in the risk of unexplained spastic cerebral palsy, as was a clinical diagnosis of chorioamnionitis,'' they wrote in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Chorioamnionitis is an infection involving the membrane surrounding the fetus, the amniotic sac and amniotic fluid. ``One or more indicators of maternal infection, placental or other, during the admission for delivery were noted in 22 percent of children with unexplained cerebral palsy,'' the researchers wrote. Previous research had associated maternal or placental infection with an increased risk of cerebral palsy in low birth weight infants, but not among normal birth weight babies who represent about half of all cases.
