What is Candida ?
Home
Parasites C andida albicans , and other strains of Candida are yeast that normally inhabits our digestive system: the mouth, throat, intestines and genitourinary tract. Candida is a normal part of the bowel flora (the organisms that naturally live inside our intestines, and are not parasitic). It has many functions inside our digestive tract, one of them to recognize and destroy harmful bacteria. Without C andida albicans in our intestines we would be defenseless against many pathogen bacteria. Healthy person can have a millions of C andida albicans . Our immune system is suppose to keep it under control, together with "friendly" bacteria (Lactobacillus acidophilus , B. bifidum, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, S. thermophilus and L. salivarius, ...). If the number of friendly bacteria is decreased (antibiotics, pesticides, chlorine,...) in relation to a number of Candida, the immune systems is weakened or other conditions for yeast proliferation occur (diet high in sugar, improper pH in the digestive system) C andida albicans will shift from yeast to mycelial fungal form and start to invade the body. In the yeast state Candida is a non-invasive, sugar-fermenting organism, while in fungal state it is invasive and can produce rhizoids, very long root-like structures. Rhizoids can penetrate mucosa or intestinal walls, leaving microscopic holes and allowing toxins, undigested food particles and bacteria and yeast to enter the bloodstream. These condition is known as Leaky Gut Syndrome, one more name for the food and environmental intolerances.

CANDIDA - A BLESSING IN DISGUISE!
This paper has some theory, circumstantial evidence, cases histories, personal experience, written resources, centers, ideas and approaches to candida. Something is here for everyone. I want the text to be a cut-to-the-chase approach to candida. As you notice in the outline, resources, books and links are at the end. For every question you have, I'm sure one of those resources will have the answer! You might end up going back and forth between. A friend called yesterday as I was finishing the paper and she told me about her approach to candida with her clients. She looks at it wholistically and helps people to love themselves back to health using a variety of techniques. What this means to me is that it's not just about diet and supplements. One hopefully will attain a higher insight into their condition and work from a grander perspective.

Enemas are tools for health that have very few negatives, are among the most ancient and safest of all medical treatments. Enemas can be great aides to health. A sense of well being, clearness, cleanness and euphoria follows an enema. Perhaps this is why enemas are used by sects of Christianity, Islam, Judiasm, Hinduism and other religious faiths for purification and atunement to God. Use this knowledge. http://www.aidsmap.com/publications/factsheets/fs06.htm
Candida Factsheet 06 - Reviewed January 2004 Candida is a common fungus that is normally controlled by the immune system. However, if your immune system is suppressed, Candida can grow on mucous membranes or elsewhere in your body, causing symptoms known as candidiasis (thrush). HIV-negative people may experience candidiasis when their immune systems are temporarily depressed by factors such as stress or alcohol, or medical conditions such as diabetes. Candidiasis may also affect people taking antibiotics, because the antibiotic temporarily kills some of the harmless bacteria that inhabit the body, providing an opportunity for Candida to take their place. Among people with HIV, mild candidiasis in the mouth is relatively common even while the CD4 cell count is between 200 and 400. On the gums, tongue, inner cheek and/or upper throat (oropharyngeal candidiasis), Candida grows in white clumps that can be scraped away, or causes red patches called erythema. Oesophageal candidiasis (in the gullet) is more serious, and counts as an AIDS-defining illness. These forms of candidiasis can make it painful to eat. Genital candidiasis may occur in the vagina in women, and under the foreskin in men, causing itching or slight pain. In people with advanced HIV infection

Figure 1 Candida albicans is a medically important micro-organism which may be cultivated in vitro . On Sabouraud's medium, a medium which is commonly used in medical laboratories, the yeast form is obtained. This form is an unicellular one and it reproduces by budding. Several other forms may be obtained in different conditions. Pseudomycelium and mycelium are filamentous forms. Pseudomycelium grows and elongates by budding while mycelium grows continuously at its apex. A fourth form is named chlamydospore. Chlamydospores appear when Candida albicans Candida albicans from other related species. Morphological changes may be the result of environmental condition alteration. Figure 1 shows all the conversions known to date.

It is caused by the yeast Candida. Causes, incidence, and risk factors Return to top Oral candida or thrush is an unusual finding in the young adult, although it is somewhat more common in the elderly. It often heralds a decrease in the strength of the immune system. People with AIDS or others with compromised immune systems (organ transplant recipients, diabetics, those undergoing chemotherapy, and those with leukemia or lymphoma ) are at risk for candidal infections.

    Introduction to Candida
If you have arrived here it means your interested in data on Candida. If you have been battling Candida you may have discovered that it is very hard to eliminate. You may feel that there is no hope and you are destined to bounce from Doctor to Doctor finding only partial and temporary relief. We do not offer a product or products to purchase online that will solve all your problems. We do not offer a miracle diet that will cure it over night. What we offer is information compiled over a 15 year period that describes exactly what steps, actions and procedures are needed to eliminate Candida overgrowth. When you read this data you will find that it "makes sense". I am a New York state certified clinical nutritionists and a Naturopath. I have been researching Candida for over 15 years. My research has been concentrated on the effects of Candida on a persons health, how Candida grows and spreads and how to eliminate it. In my research I have not held sacred what big fancy books or university's have taught. I have paid more attention to what patients have told me and what lab tests have told me and what actually worked. But that doesn't mean I didn't consult a big fancy book when necessary. We are constantly updated our Candida programs as our research brings better and faster ways to conquer it, so check in with us regularly. If after reading this data you are interested in receiving a consultation with us please check out the page that says "making an appointment".

    58. ADAP Drugs: Flucytosine
Used to treat serious fungal infections caused by candida or Cryptococcus. (Ancobon, 5FC)
    http://www.atdn.org/access/drugs/flucy.html
    flucytosine (Ancobon, 5FC) Drug description
Flucytosine is used to treat serious fungal infections caused by Candida or Cryptococcus. Cryptococcus usually infects the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord, causing cryptococcal meningitis. Cryptococcal meningitis is usally treated with intravenous amphotericin B . Sometimes a doctor will use a combination of amphotericin B and flucytosine to try and bring the cryptococcal infection under control more quickly. However, recent studies show that this combination may be no better than amphotericin B alone due to the side effects of flucytosine. Other new studies have shown that the combination of flucytosine and another antifungal drug, fluconazole , may be just as effective as intravenous amphotericin B at treating cryptococcal meningitis. Flucytosine and fluconazole are both pills. Side effects
Bone marrow toxicity can cause anemia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, thrombocytopenia and, rarely, agranulocytosis and eosinophilia. Other side effects can be nausea, vomiting, anorexia, bloating, diarrhea, and, rarely, bowel perforation. Reversible elevations in liver enzymes have been reported. Occasionally, rashes may be a side effect. Some side effects that have only been seen very rarely are confusion, hallucinations, headaches, sedation, vertigo and liver enlargement. There has also been a case of severe allergic-type reaction to the drug in at least one person with AIDS. This type of reaction is called anaphylaxis. Dosage
The usual dosage of flucytosine for adults and children is 50-150mg/kg daily, administered in equally divided doses at 6 hour intervals.
