Bipolar Disorder Suicide Depression Being Depressed Mania ... About Me Living with any mental illness isn't easy. Please read on if you think you or someone you know may be ill.
Let me start by telling you that I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder two years ago. I have struggled with this illness longer than that. I am putting this website up in hopes that it may reach just one person and help them. This is not going to be some medical site that tells you exactly what bipolar disorder is. It is going to tell you how it effects a person's life and daily activities. I have been hospitalized three times for suicidal thoughts....never an attempt, just thoughts. However, I know so many people who have attempted and came very close to losing their lives due to this illness. That's why I feel that people should be more aware of their feelings and not just push them aside and say "oh, I'm just having a really bad day". I found that I was having "really bad days" quite often. They only kept getting worse. The worse they got, the worse I got. I eventually would stay in bed all the time. I didn't want to go anywhere or do anything. I didn't even want to see or talk to any of my friends. I ended up quitting my job. My life had become my bedroom. I would cry at the least little thing or laugh at the most inappropriate thing. I had turned into someone that I was definitely not. It took a while for anybody to figure out that I was in a position that I really needed help. Then they had to convince me that I needed help. Now that I look back on it, I know that if I hadn't gotten any help at all I would be dead.

Alexa cradled the phone against her ear and sighed. "Look, all I know is that Jamie's been really weird lately. A couple months ago she could hardly drag herself to school and now she's running around like the Road Runner cartoon. What's with her?" Alexa listened for a minute, then continued. "Yeah, you're right. It's like Jamie has a permanent caffeine fix. She never stops talking, and then she gets so crabby! Did you hear her with Michael? But then she's off and running again. And did you see all that stuff she got at the mall? I know she can't pay for it. Jamie told me she doesn't even know why she bought so much." Alexa hung up with a worried frown. Should she talk to her dad about Jamie? Say something to Jamie's mom? Go talk to her guidance counselor at school? If Jamie sat still long enough, maybe she could talk things over with her. Or maybe she should just ignore Jamie's behavior altogether. I mean, it's not like she's sick or anything , Alexa thought.

This site was created to serve people who are receiving appropriate medical treatment for their bipolar illness, including appropriate medications. We also welcome affected friends and family members of people with bipolar illness. We are not equipped, however, to serve the needs of people who choose to go untreated for Bipolar Disorder. Our greatest strength is the peer to peer support we offer one another, but we are not licensed mental health professionals. While we feel extreme compassion and empathy toward people who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, we are not in a position as an on-line community to attend to their needs.

    Bipolar disorder rising among children
By Dr. Sanjay Gupta CNN Your Health (CNN) The cover of this week's TIME magazine profiles the explosion of juvenile bipolar disorder cases. The age for the first onset of bipolar disorder once known as manic depression has plummeted from 32 to 19. Bipolar disorder, a ferocious mental illness, seems to be showing up in kids at an increasing rate. As doctors look deeper into the condition and begin to understand its underlying causes, they are coming to the unsettling conclusion that large numbers of teens, children and even babies might also be suffering from the disease. Luckily, this comes at a time when the understanding and acceptance of medical illnesses is at an all-time high. Now here's a look at more health and medical news making headlines this week.
