There is no test that can absolutely show that you have Bell s palsy. Currently there are no treatments to interrupt Bell s palsy completely.
http://www.hipusa.com/eTools/webmd/A-Z_Encyclopedia/bells palsy treatments.htm

The Basics
Symptoms How Do I Know If I Have It?
There is no test that can absolutely show that you have Bell's palsy. Doctors refer to the diagnosis of Bell's palsy as a "diagnosis of exclusion," meaning that Bell's palsy is usually diagnosed after other conditions have been ruled out. Your doctor will do a complete and careful physical examination. He or she is likely to notice that, upon attempting unsuccessfully to close your eyelid, your eye on the affected side will drift up and in; this is called the Bell phenomenon. In order to rule out other conditions, your doctor will probably test your hearing and your sense of balance and may order other tests, such as skull X-rays, a computed tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Electrical testing may help clarify the diagnosis and may help predict the speed and extent of your recovery. What Are the Treatments? Currently there are no treatments to interrupt Bell's palsy completely. Your doctor may give you a short course of corticosteroids (such as prednisone), aimed at decreasing the inflammation of the facial nerve. This may shorten the course of Bell's palsy. In the meantime, extra care must be taken to protect the eye on the affected side. Because the ability to blink or close the eye is gone, you may be asked to wear a patch over that eye. While some people have excess tearing, others have decreased tearing and must use eye drops to prevent drying in their affected eye. Some doctors suggest that massage of the facial muscles is helpful therapy for Bell's palsy. In very rare instances particularly when symptoms of Bell's palsy are greatly prolonged surgery to decrease pressure on the facial nerve may be recommended.

Home Faculty Residency Program Cosmetic Surgeries Pricing Breast Augmentation Breast Lift Facelift ... Mission Statement Bells Palsy Introduction If you have Bell’s Palsy or another type of facial paralysis you are not alone. Each year nearly 40,000 Americans are diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. Bell’s Palsy is a weakness or complete paralysis of the facial muscles, and is the most common cause of facial paralysis. The cause of Bell’s Palsy is not completely understood but may be caused by a virus. In addition, even more Americans develop facial paralysis as a result of trauma, infection, tumors and other causes. The worldwide incidence of facial nerve paralysis and facial nerve disorders is unknown, but is substantial. Throughout this section we will talk about facial paralysis and Bell’s Palsy and often use these terms almost interchangeably. Bell’s Palsy is just one type of facial paralysis, and is different from other types of facial nerve paralysis. We will point out these distinctions where they are important. Facial paralysis is a weakness or lack of movement of the facial muscles. The facial muscles control facial movements and thus facial expression. Facial expression is such an important part of our daily interactions with others that paralysis of the facial muscles can have an enormous impact on our lives. Think about it. Facial paralysis impacts how we greet our spouse and kids in the morning; how we interact with colleagues and customers at work; how we socialize with friends and when meeting others. Facial paralysis can have a tremendous impact on self-esteem, even for the most successful and confident of us. Fortunately, in many patients the facial nerve weakness will improve on its own. For those whose facial nerve weakness does not improve spontaneously there are many treatment options.

Bell's Palsy
Bell's palsy is a weakness of the facial muscles. It develops suddenly, and the cause is not known. Most people make a full recovery within 2-3 months. You should protect your eye if you cannot close your eyelid fully.
What is Bell's palsy? Bell's palsy is a weakness (paralysis) that affects the muscles of the face. It is due to a problem with the facial nerve. It usually affects one side of the face, but rarely both sides are affected. Bell's palsy is named after the doctor who first described it. What is the facial nerve? You have a facial nerve (also called the seventh cranial nerve) on each side of your face. Each facial nerve comes out from your brain, through a small tunnel in your skull just under your ear. The nerve splits into many branches that supply the small muscles of the face that you use to smile, frown, etc. It also supplies the muscles that you use to close your eyelids. The facial nerve also takes taste sensations from your tongue to your brain. Who gets Bell's palsy? Anyone can get Bells palsy, and it affects both men and women equally. It most commonly occurs between the ages of 10 and 40. Bell's palsy is the most common cause of a sudden facial weakness. About 1 in 70 people have a Bell's palsy at some stage in their life.

WHAT IS BELLS PALSY? Bell's palsy is defined as an unexplained muscle paralysis or weakness. It affects the facial nerve and the persons' ability to create facial expressions such as smiling, wrinkling the forehead, winking, and closing their eyelid. In most cases, only one side is affected, but there are cases where both sides suffer together. Many people report headaches, acute hearing sensitivity, drooling, impaired speech, loss of taste (or metallic tastes) facial numbness, and facial pain. The psychological, emotional, and social impact of Bell's palsy is devastating, and many become depressed and withdrawn. Although given it's name in the 1800's by Sir Charles Bell, a Scottish surgeon and physiologist, there is still no know cause or cure for Bell's palsy. Moebius syndrome is different in many ways from Bell's palsy. Moebius syndrome is congenital and there is significant, or sometimes complete lack of facial muscle or nerves in the facial area. Both sides are affected, leaving no possibility of expression, and potential speech problems. In addition, most are born with congenital limb deformities such as webbing or fusing. Bell's palsy on the other hand, can strike anyone at any age, and although most (75-90%) will recover completely, there are those who may suffer long-term residual or permanent paralysis. I have spoken to those who have been born with it (lack of oxygen during delivery), those who have been pregnant with it, children, teens, middle-aged, and the elderly.

The new family band. I'm sorry I do not see much hope for this new talented boundary breaking band. The problem is Klaus couldn't study in Dresden without losing a year and he only comes home about once every 6 weeks. He does break the state boundaries by coming home though. Ha Ha Ha I'll laugh myself broke (German saying). It's still a lot of fun and I hope we have more gigs than the last and first one (Editors Note: Karl's emotional involvement in band matters has reached for Klaus recognizable levels, which greatly improves the musical output, now somebody has to teach Philipp how to keep a beat). The first one was actually pretty cool. It had this exotic touch added on a week later due to the fact that someone there had been infected with meningitis. I pissed orange for three days due to some totally senseless medicine that was handed out to the local population so the government officials could say they had done something.
Karl
P.S. Before the hordes of teenage males who wish an education in Turkish break down the door; I haven't got the Turkish Playbooy TV to work yet.

Bell's palsy causes most cases of acute, unilateral facial palsy; infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 may be its major cause. Varicella zoster virus (VZV) reactivation (Ramsay Hunt syndrome) is less common, but may appear without skin lesions in a form indistinguishable from Bells palsy. Symptoms improve in nearly all patients with Bell's palsy, and most patients with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, but many are left with functional and cosmetic deficits. Steroids are frequently used to optimize outcomes in Bell's palsy, but proof of their effectiveness is marginal. Oral prednisone has been studied extensively, although some reports have suggested a higher recovery rate with intravenous steroids. Given the existing data, we support the use of oral prednisone in those patients with complete facial palsy, and no contraindications to their use ( ). In this author's opinion, the greatly increased cost and inconvenience of intravenous steroids cannot be justified by the data available. Antiviral agents may also be effective in treatment of Bell's palsy; HSV is susceptible to acyclovir and related agents. There have been few investigations of acyclovir treatment in Bells palsy, but one controlled study showed added benefit when the drug was used with prednisone. The risk and cost of acyclovir is low enough that we support its use, with oral steroids, in those patients with complete facial paralysis.
