Hello fellow cyber users! Im Jamie-Lee. This is a picture of me advertising for the Crippled Children's Association in South Australia. It's a few years old now, but a favourite. I am 11 years old, and I am new to the internet. I was born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. Basically, this mean that my joints (i.e. elbows, knees....etc) are fixed. They don't bend....and I can't walk. Last year, I came to live with my Dad (Scott) and his wife Karen. Karen left her job so she could take the best possible care of me and my brothers and sister. Karen has made this page for me to try and locate anyone else in the world with the same condition as me. If there is anyone out there who has this condition, or knows of someone else who has, please, please email us below and tell us how it has affected you. In particular, if you are a doctor or physiotherapist who has treated anyone with this disability, also, please contact us. You may recognise me from the commercials for the "Down Every Street Appeal".

26. Frequently Asked Arthrogryposis Program Questions
Frequently Asked arthrogryposis Program Questions. Q What causes arthrogryposis? Q Is there a cure for arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC)?
http://kidshealth.org/faq/arthrogryposis.html
Frequently Asked Arthrogryposis Program Questions Q: What causes arthrogryposis? A: There are many possible causes for arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC), but no specific known cause. Generally, problems with joint growth and development, decreased fetal movement, and spinal development during the first 3 months of pregnancy may lead to the development of AMC. AMC is not an inherited disorder, so a person with AMC will not pass it on to his children. Distal arthrogryposis, which is rarer than AMC, is inherited, and can be passed from parent to child.
Q: Is there a cure for arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC)? A: Currently, there is not a cure for arthrogryposis, but there are several treatments that can help children who have arthrogryposis live fuller lives. Splinting and bracing can help improve range of motion. Surgical intervention can improve joint position. Parents often ask about muscle transplants; however, these are not currently a valid treatment option. Muscle transfers may be used to provide power to a flexible joint, such as creating elbow flexion by the transfer of triceps to create "biceps" in one arm. Each individual must be evaluated for total body function before these transfers are considered.
Q: Will my child's symptoms get worse?

http://www.geocities.com/denisecsus/LittleDeniseandherfamily.html
Little Me Home    My name is Denise. I was born on November 15th 1972. I was diagnosed with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita. The actual cause of the condition is unknown in my situation.
At birth my feet were clubbed, my hands were in an abnormal position and I had a cleft pallate, acutally three of them. I have had numerous surgeries and only some of them were successful.  Years of physical and speech therapy proved to be the most helpful intervention for me. Therapy only worked for me because it began at a very early age, I was still an infant.
I can speak with out any type of defect and I am mobile. I discontinued physical therapy as a pre-teen. I have since suffered for that decision. I have lost fleibility and range of motion. I have recently tried to stretch my joints but I am very forgetful and need to motivate or pay the price even further.
This is me at the begining of it all, in December of 1972. Here I am at about two years of age sitting in our hallway. Life is what you make of it.
It is either good or it is bad, whatever you choose.

yes no Arthrogryposis: Amyoplasia Congenita; Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita; Otto syndrome Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) is a term used to describe a baby born with multiple joint contractures and covers a wide range of conditions. The contractures limit the range of movement of the joints. The joints themselves may be fixed in a flexed or extended position. The number of joints affected can range from two or three to almost total involvement, including spine and jaw, resulting in a wide range of disability. AMC is a non-progressive condition with a normal life-span. However, joint contractures are sometimes linked to rare syndromes with limited life expectancy. Although AMC is associated with fetal immobility, the exact causes are not known. Early and specific diagnosis for each case is essential so that appropriate therapy can begin as soon as possible. Such treatment includes physiotherapy (including passive stretching) splinting and surgery. Inheritance patterns
These are variable. In Amyoplasia, the most common form of AMC, there is no significant inheritance risk. Distal arthrogryposis, which primarily affects the hands and feet, is autosomal dominant. However, as there are over one hundred types of AMC, precise diagnosis of individual cases is necessary to establish the risk of possible recurrence.

http://www.livingingrace.com/Arthrogryposis.htm
Arthrogryposis is not actually a disease, but a description of the symptoms that occur about 1 in 10,000 births. The simplest definition would be strong or stiff joints. Through lack of movement while in the womb, the babies muscles do not develop properly and the bones likewise fail to develop, often they are small and brittle. The lack of movement also causes the joints to be very stiff, and the pressure of the womb bearing down on these precious children often causes the limbs to be distorted in appearance- the most common being club feet, dislocated hips, and cupped hands.
There are some 350 different kinds of Arthrogryposis, which can make the specific type a very rare occurrence. This in turn, leads to difficulty in diagnosing the condition and treating it appropriately. http://www.sonnet.com/awnues
