Arthritis and Rheumatism Alternatives
  • Cure the patient, and loose the revenue stream.
  • Treat the symptoms, and the patient will pay you for the rest of his life.
Is that what you are finding? Is your doctor talking about pain management as arthritis treatment, and nothing else? Then it is time you looked further! It is YOUR responsibility to make sure you are dealing with a doctor who looks for causes , not merely relieves the pain symptoms. There are many good doctors out there, you just have to keep looking till you find one. And when you do, pass the word around! "Rheumatoid Arthritis" is not one single disease, but a catch-all diagnosis for many different causes, over 190 known different diseases, and probably more. Many are curable! But will Your doctor try to find out which of those 190 diseases you really have? Or take the easy and profitable way out by simply prescribing pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs for the rest of your life? I hope you check every one of these options. You never know which one will lead You to YOUR cure. When the doctors say it can't be cured, it means the multi-billion dollar pharmo-medical industry does not see enough profit in investing in a Permanent Cure But you do! When they used heavy legal mu$cle to force the former tenant of this web nook out over a dubious name similarity, a tenant who spoke of CURES, not profitable pain relief; we used our constitutional right to Freedom of Speech and put up these pointers to good information to help You.

Internet Snake Oil Snagged By FTC
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is making an effort to combat fraudulent health websites on the Internet and is cautioning consumers to look to the Internet for health information with a discerning eye. The FTC has been sweeping the Internet in a crackdown on health websites which make fraudulent and unsubstantiated claims . The FTC campaign, known as Operation Cure. All, combines law enforcement and consumer education in an attempt to stop the bogus claims and quackery. More than 22 million adults in the United States used the Internet to search for health and medical information as of December 1998. Twenty-nine percent of all Americans use the Internet for medical information, with about 70 percent of this group doing so prior to visiting the doctor. Most of these users search for information about diseases. About 25 percent of these users join an online support group.

There is no known eczema cure, but herbs and other substances, like emu oil, have been found to be very effective for individuals who have not achieved the desired results from traditional medicine. The dry, itching skin that accompanies eczema may be helped with products based on emu oil and herbs. Alternative therapies using herbs may be effective for some people suffering from eczema. These guidelines offer some information about eczema, its causes, and some suggestions about alternative, or complementary therapies. Many patients have discovered that Western Medicine does not always have success with eczema. Conventional treatment and complementary treatments should not be consider an 'either/or' condition. The best therapy is the one that ones for an individual. See some dramatic pictures of a woman with eczema before using emu oil and after 1 and 3 weeks of applying emu oil to her neck and face.

    92. Coping With Arthritis In Its Many Forms
Coping with arthritis in Its Many Forms. by Carolyn J. Strange. Carolyn J. Strange is a science and medical writer in Saratoga, Calif. Common Types of arthritis.
    http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/296_art.html
This article originally appeared in the March 1996 FDA Consumer and was revised in December 1996 and June 1997. It is no longer being updated. For the most recent information on this topic, see "Arthritis: Timely Treatments for an Ageless Disease."
Coping with Arthritis in Its Many Forms
by Carolyn J. Strange It may begin as a slight morning stiffness. For the lucky person with arthritis, that's as far as it goes. But for millions of others, arthritis can become a disabling, even crippling, disease. Roman Emperor Diocletian exempted citizens with severe arthritis from paying taxes, no doubt realizing that the disease itself can be taxing enough. One in seven Americansnearly 40 millionhave some form of arthritis. That number will climb as the baby boomers age. By 2020, about 60 million Americans will have arthritis, according to The National Arthritis Data Workgroup of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. The disease is physical, but also exacts a mental, emotional and economic toll. "Chronic illness impacts a person's entire lifestylework, family and recreation," says Gail Wright, Ph.D., a rehabilitation psychologist at the University of Missouri, Columbia. To improve quality of life, doctors and health educators increasingly advise combining drug treatment with education, social support, and moderate forms of exercise.

    Glucosamine for Arthritis
    Stephen Barrett, M.D.
Osteoarthritis (OA), the most widespread type of arthritis, is a degenerative disease of the joints. Although sometimes capable of causing acute inflammation, it is most commonly a "wear-and-tear" disease involving degeneration of joint cartilage and formation of bony spurs within various joints. Trauma to the joints, repetitive occupational usage, and obesity are risk factors. Most people over 60 years of age have this affliction to some extent, with approximately 16 million sufferers requiring medical care. The main goal of treatment is to relieve pain. In recent years, glucosamine and chondroitin have been widely promoted as a treatment for OA. Glucosamine, an amino sugar, is thought to promote the formation and repair of cartilage. Chondroitin, a carbohydrate, is a cartilage component that is thought to promote water retention and elasticity and to inhibit the enzymes that break down cartilage. Both compounds are manufactured by the body.
    Research Findings
Laboratory studies suggest that glucosamine may stimulate production of cartilage-building proteins. Other research suggests that chondroitin may inhibit production of cartilage-destroying enzymes and fight inflammation too. Glucosamine supplements are derived from shellfish shells; chondroitin supplements are generally made from cow cartilage. Human studies have shown that either one may relieve arthritis pain and stiffness with fewer side effects than conventional arthritis drugs. But two problems remain. First, there has not been enough high-quality or long-range research to determine whether their use is practical. Second, because dietary supplement manufacture is not regulated, product quality (especially of chondroitin products) is not assured.
