The following information provides tips for better study habits and decreased test anxiety. The Immediate Environment
The environment in which you study can have a big effect on how efficient your study time is. Check your place of study for the following conditions:
  • Noise
  • Interruptions
  • Lighting
  • Temperature
  • Neatness
  • Comfort
  • Equipment
Minimize distracting noise. Some people need some sound and some like silence. Find what works for you. Culprits are family and friends. Consider a "do not disturb sign" and turning on your answering machine. You can catch up with folks later. 75 watt bulbs are best, but not too close and placed opposite the dominant hand. Better cool than warm. Have plenty of room to work; don't be cramped. Your study time will go better if you take a few minutes at the start to straighten things up. A desk and straight-backed chair is usually best. Don't get too comfortablea bed is a place to sleep,not study.

I read everything, now what? Nervous Nights Stomach-churning head-spinning sleepless nights can be a sign of math anxiety. Try these simple ideas to help you relax and wake up feeling in charge.
1. Study - OK, that sounds dumb. Of course you should study. Check out these study tips . But look at #2... 2. Don't study too much! Spending too much time going over and over the same stuff won't help and will just overwhelm you. 3. Calm those fears by treating yourself with calmness. Try to have a set routine - knowing that you ALWAYS eat oatmeal on test days might just help. Go to bed on time. WHAT IS MATH ANXIETY? Math anxiety is a learned emotional response to one or more of the following:
  • participating in a math class
  • listening to a lecture
  • working through problems
  • discussing mathematics WHERE DOES MATH ANXIETY COME FROM? Math anxiety usually comes from negative experiences in working with teachers, tutors, classmates, parents or siblings. Other times the anxiety comes from stress or a personal problem that was going on at the same time s/he was learning a particular concept. In this case, s/he associates math with whatever was going on at that time. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF MATH ANXIETY?
  • PANIC - Students have a feeling of helplessness. They feel that a brick wall has come down and they will never do better and have reached their limit in math.
  • PARANOIA - Students have a feeling that everyone knows the answer except them. They feel they have been faking math for years and everyone knows it.
  • PASSIVE - They have an attitude that either they have a math mind or they don't. There is nothing they can do to become better in math. They sit back and don't take action.

And, like adults, children experience the same feelings of helplessness and lack of control that disaster-related stress can bring about. Unlike adults, however, children have little experience to help them place their current situation into perspective.     "The problem for me is that I have always been far too open, so much so that I suffered from terrible allergies, and neverending sickliness during periods of my childhood, which, I was to find out in later years, are sure signs that you are absorbing other people’s negative energy, and becoming like the liver of the spirit, wherein all toxins are sent to be processed.
    I was always too unhealthily open. As a child, at my grandmother’s cottage, I often suffered horrendous allergy attacks, sore throats, or plugged nasal cavities, which could last for weeks, or even the whole summer. Many decades later I read in a metaphysical book that children who are very open often suffer the consequences- in the form of mental or physical suffering- from the pathos or corruptions of another in their midst. And there was one elderly person, living in my presence, who was as corrupt as they come; outwardly giving but inwardly taking, outwardly full of pleasantries but inwardly a murderer, outwardly caring but inwardly conniving and oppressing, and I suffered in the atmosphere of that person’s psychic chaos without a clue that it was not simply a bad case of hay fever, or a cold that would not go away.

    Later in life, as a young man, I had a certain type of pain occur on one side of my neck a number of times, which came on all of the sudden, would stay for a few agonizing days, and then slowly fade away. I assumed it was the remnant of an old football injury, returning now and then whenever I slept improperly. This, however, was not the truth, for I did not know at the time that we call someone a “pain in the neck” for very accurate, spiritual reasons, though in modern days we do not recall the lucid understandings which this now colloquial phrase once held in years gone by when the dark arts were more prevalently understood.

    On one occasion I was in a heated quarrel with a person close to my heart, but who was not exactly inwardly honest about their feelings, and though they were claiming to care deeply for me, at one point they walked behind me and I felt a shooting pain go through my back, as if I had just been stabbed, which I had, psychically. And so I also then understood the term ‘back stabber’ in a way I never had before.

I have experience working with people with chronic anxiety and depression, victims of torture and abuse. What I have found is common is that when a person pays a little more attention to their body's and thought management, the symptoms of anxiety become more tolerable. OK if there is a clinical depression medication may be of benefit but following this regime complements standard medical intervention and particularly with fluid balance it actually enhances it.
    Additional to this, I play hand drums in a samba band in the UK. This is extremely therapeutic and highly recommended.

    Chilling Out - A Beginners guide
    In order to attain that more relaxed state of being you must first set a framework for calm. That is a fully hydrated and reasonably well fed body, will be more suseptable to the techniques that will follow, than a dry and hungry body.
    Step One - Fluid Balance
    You open your eyes in the morning. The first impulse is to empty that overfilled bladder. OK do it. Then REPLACE the water you have lost. This will need to be about 500ml (a pint if you think premetrically). Then every hour try to drink about 500ml of water. If your tap water is drinkable use that. If not filtered or bottled will be as good. When at least 2.5 litres have been consumed - please not all in one hit or you'll know where you'll be - you should be fully hydrated. Tea and coffee are minus signs in terms of your fluid levels. They actually dehydrate your body. I'm not saying rule them out but to replace what they make you lose. If you make your last caffeine contained drink before 6pm. Your heart will not still be overbeating at bedtime.

    What is "Separation Anxiety"?
    Why does it haunt so many Dog Owners everywhere?

    If an owner purchases one pup and spends extensive amounts of time in the company of this pup whether it be just in the same room or house or with training, playing and cuddling.
    Then after a few weeks or maybe months (without much notice given by the owners) the owners decides to go back to school or work or spend increasing amounts of time away from the home visiting, shopping, gardening or something where the pup cannot attend or be by the owner's side.
    This can bring on "Separation Anxiety".
    The other scenario is in the opposite end when a pup is purchased and immediately brought into a life that offers possible daycare for large amounts of time during the day or kenneled for extensive amounts of time and possibly fed by numerous people at various times throughout any given week and basically has not been able to establish where he belongs or to whom or to set roots for security in a home environment.
    Any of the above circumstances may find the owners noticing destructive behaviour patterns in their dogs, mood swings from day to day or maybe from week to week, the lack of attention or willingness to learn, the need to revert back to puppy behaviour by soiling their beds or nearby surroundings and the list goes on.

      Anxiety Disorders
      The anxiety disorders are the most common, or frequently occurring, mental disorders. They encompass a group of conditions that share extreme or pathological anxiety as the principal disturbance of mood or emotional tone. Anxiety, which may be understood as the pathological counterpart of normal fear, is manifest by disturbances of mood, as well as of thinking, behavior, and physiological activity.
      Types of Anxiety Disorders
      The anxiety disorders include panic disorder (with and without a history of agoraphobia), agoraphobia (with and without a history of panic disorder), generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobia, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, acute stress disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (DSM-IV). In addition, there are adjustment disorders with anxious features, anxiety disorders due to general medical conditions, substance-induced anxiety disorders, and the residual category of anxiety disorder not otherwise specified (DSM-IV). Panic Attacks and Panic Disorder

      , or situationally predisposed Panic attacks are not always indicative of a mental disorder, and up to 10 percent of otherwise healthy people experience an isolated panic attack per year (Barlow, 1988; Klerman et al., 1991). Panic attacks also are not limited to panic disorder. They commonly occur in the course of social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, and major depressive disorder (DSM-IV).
