Managing Test anxiety. What does test anxiety feel like? What can you do to control test anxiety? Be well prepared for the test.
http://www.sdc.uwo.ca/learning/mcanx.html
Managing Test Anxiety
What does test anxiety feel like?
  • Some students experience mainly physical symptoms, such as headaches, nausea, faintness, feeling too hot or too cold, etc.
  • Others experience more emotional symptoms, such as crying easily, feeling irritable, or getting frustrated quickly.
  • The major problem of test anxiety is usually its effect on thinking ability; it can cause you to blank out or have racing thoughts that are difficult to control.
  • Although many students feel some level of anxiety when writing exams, most can cope with that anxiety and bring it down to a manageable level.
What can you do to control test anxiety?
  • Be well prepared for the test.
  • Include as much self-testing in your review as possible.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle: get enough sleep, good nutrition, exercise, some personal "down" time, and a reasonable amount of social interaction.
  • As you anticipate the exam, think positively , e.g., "I can do OK on this exam. I've studied and I know my stuff."
  • Engage in "thought stopping"

Postpartum Depression, Anxiety and Psychosis
By Veronica Barnes I had heard all those terms before, but thankfully had never experienced them. I had friends who had bouts with the "baby blues" for a few days after their babies were born, but I had been immune to even that. So when my body and mind started falling apart two weeks before my son was due, I was sure that I had some terminal disease. The thought that it was related to a shift in hormones and was psychological in nature was completely absurd to me. Nothing with my two prior pregnancies and deliveries prepared me for the hell I was about to live through as I awaited the birth of my third child. Until the 37 th week of pregnancy, things had gone pretty smoothly for me. I had been down the road twice before, so most of the thrill and wonder of carrying a baby was routine. I was excited, but then again, I knew that having two I had a C-Section, and was thrilled to see my new baby boy. He was beautiful. I loved him immediately and with a deep passion. I almost felt like myself again. After his birth, I was sedated with painkillers and actually slept through the entire night. I believed then that the worst was behind me, but unfortunately, it was only the beginning. By the second day in the hospital, all of my symptoms came back in a rush and the despair I felt was indescribable. I managed to make it through four nights in the hospital with the help of some very understanding nurses, my loyal husband, and my precious doses of Tylenol #3 with Codeine. So what if they gave me horrendous nightmares I was able to sleep and that is all that mattered to me.

Discusses separation anxiety, thunderstorm anxiety and obsessivecompulsive disorder.
http://www.geocities.com/harbaugh4/scared.html
Phobias and Other Anxiety Separation anxiety - it's not just for doggies anymore. Cats have the ability to be just as destructive and annoying as dogs, in this regard. Well, maybe not AS annoying.
Separation anxiety is demonstrated by several things, centered on how the cat acts when you leave, when you're gone, and when you return. Here, your cat is a dog. You try to leave, and she runs to the door, crying, climbing at the wall, saying take me too!! She tries to sneak out the door and run with you to work. When you're gone, she cries, and destroys things she never does when you're around. And when you return, it's the biggest event of the world - all is right, because you are home!!
Flattering, but...not preferable. Your cat must be retrained, because it's causing her extreme stress every time you leave, she's destroying things, and you may not always be able to successfully chase her when she sneaks out. What can you do?
The first task is for the owner. Change *your* routine. We don't realize it, but we do the exact same things again and again every day. Your cat will figure out that when you put on shoes, turn off the TV, pick up your briefcase and grab your keys, you're on the way out. So, instead, do things out of order. Put your keys in your pocket a half hour before you're ready to leave. Put on your shoes right away after showering. When you aren't leaving, go put on your shoes, pick up your keys and bag - and walk back to the couch and sit down. This will help to break her of the patterned response.

71. The Anxious Child #47 - AACAP Facts For Families
All children experience anxiety. anxiety in children is expected and normal at specific times in development. No. 47, (12/2000). All children experience anxiety.
http://www.aacap.org/publications/factsfam/anxious.htm
T HE A NXIOUS C HILD No. 47 All children experience anxiety. Anxiety in children is expected and normal at specific times in development. For example, from approximately age 8 months through the preschool years, healthy youngsters may show intense distress (anxiety) at times of separation from their parents or other persons with whom they are close. Young children may have short-lived fears, (such as fear of the dark, storms, animals, or strangers). If anxieties become severe and begin to interfere with the daily activities of childhood, such as separating from parents, attending school and making friends, parents should consider seeking the evaluation and advice of a child and adolescent psychiatrist. One type of anxiety that may need treatment is called separation anxiety. This includes: o
  • constant thoughts and fears about safety of self and parents
  • refusing to go to school
  • frequent stomachaches and other physical complaints
  • extreme worries about sleeping away from home
  • overly clingy
  • panic or tantrums at times of separation from parents
  • trouble sleeping or nightmares
Another type of anxiety (phobia) is when a child is afraid of specific things such as dogs, insects, or needles and these fears cause significant distress.
