Brain Aneurysm Foundation Established Patients with brain aneurysms often present with intracranial hemorrhage. There can be varying degrees of neurologic injury as a result of the initial hemorrhage. Recovery after treatment can often be long and, at times, requires inpatient or outpatient physical and occupational therapy. For patients with unruptured aneurysms, there is often more time for patient education regarding the potential risks of hemorrhage or neurologic impairment from their aneurysms and the risks of treatment. After treatment, the process of recovery requires the full support and understanding of the patient's family, as well as the willingness of the patients themselves. Many of the patients and their family members share common concerns. In response to many of these concerns, members of the Brain Aneurysm/AVM Center (at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston) have worked closely with patients and their families to establish the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to serve the needs of brain aneurysm patients and their families through support networks, the expertise of its Medical Advisory Board, newsletters,educational materials and public education about the condition. Two other goals of the foundation are to promote and support research, including clinical and basic scientific, on the cause(s) and treatment of brain aneurysms (and related conditions) as well as to provide financial assistance to needy aneurysm patients and their families. Chlamydia pneumoniae Causes Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Antibodies to Chlamydia pneumoniae are rarely found in children less than five years old; the primary infection usually occurs between ages 8 and 16. Reinfections occur throughout childhood, and the rate of infection is higher among men than women. In non-elderly people it causes mild respiratory symptoms, but may cause pneumonia in the elderly. Indications of the presence of Chlamydia pneumoniae have been found in the majority of studies which have looked for them. C pneumoniae was found in 11/25 aortas, 5/9 iliac arteries, 2/5 femoral arteries, and 1/2 iliac veins, by PCR in AAA specimens. It was also seen in vascular tissue from 3/6 "ostensibly normal" liver transplant donors, which showed some atherosclerotic changes.
