Benign familial nocturnal alternating hemiplegia of childhood

Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery, McGill University, Montreal, PQ, Canada. In infancy, two brothers developed recurrent attacks of alternating or bilateral hemiplegia arising exclusively out of sleep. The episodes were terminated by even brief sleep. Neither child had hypotonia, dystonic attacks, paroxysmal eye movement abnormalities, or other features characteristic of the now-classic form of alternating hemiplegia of childhood (AHC). What happened to my post? I can't find it. Anyone with a child that has alternating hemiplegia, please let me know. I think this is what my grandson has. Can't find too much about it on web. One site, you have to have a password and I can't get it to work, so can't go there. Thank you. Next Article

Does anyone have a child with alternating hemiplegia? I think that is what my grandchild has, he was treated for epilepsy. His "attacks" started at 18 months old. If anyone has information, please give me your email, I would like to talk with other parents. We are so scared. Thank you. Next Article

Associated persons: Adolphe Marie Gubler Ernst Viktor von Leyden Sir Herman David Weber Description: Partial or complete oculomotor paralysis and contralateral hemiplegia due to lesions of the nucleus of the third cranial nerve and its ventral fibres crossing the midbrain and the pyramidal tract. The most common type of lesion causing haemorrhage or thrombosis, although a neoplasm of the pituitary region may, if it extends dorsally, result in this syndrome.

The muscles of the ipsilateral side of the face are paralysed, and the ophthalmologic characteristics are diplopia, internal strabismus, and loss of power to rotate eye outward.
